Nature and scope

The Finance Analyst for Employment & Community is responsible for the preparation of financial reports and the data integrity for the transactions pertaining to funded programs. The Finance Analyst reviews the financial component of the funding proposals and agreements, and provides accounting advise to Employment, Community, and National programs staff. The Finance Analyst, in collaboration with Finance management, establishes best practices, to ensure adherence to funding contracts, regulatory and YMCA guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs monthly financial analysis and reporting on programs, as requested by Finance management
  • Reviews the financial/accounting sections of the funding proposals and agreements, and provides feedback to senior staff in Employment, Community, and National programs
  • Monitors Employment and Community programs performance to ensure compliance with approved budgets and contracts and maintains communication with program staff on financial results
  • Performs month end closing tasks related to Employment and Community programs (claims, revenue recognition, program statements)
  • Preparation of the audit documentation for the program audits and funder’s financial monitors
  • Prepare monthly and periodic financial reports for the funded programs. Process manual JV, enter and monitor funds received for E&C programs.
  • To ensure the claims/reports are matching with the Financial Edge records, meet program claim/report deadlines & training, by due dates.
  • Review and analysis of the E&C annual budget and the review of ABM budget with the funders and management timelines.
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner
  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children’s Aid Society.
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience
  • Must be detail oriented and have superior analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and problem solving skills
  • Must possess strong computer skills (Advance Excel, Word, computerized accounting package, knowledge of Access an asset).
  • Knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not for Profit Organizations an asset
  • Understanding of the entire accounting process, from data-entry, to completing Financial Statements.
  • Experience in computerized accounting systems and in preparation of financial statements and financial reports.
  • Previous experience working within an organization with government funding an asset.
  • Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Commitment to respecting diversity and demonstrating inclusive behaviour, responding with sensitivity and self-awareness to the unique needs of colleagues and members, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity

Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Within the first four months and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required.
