Job Overview: Reporting to the Supervisor, Services for Educational Achievement, the Family Liaison is responsible for working directly with families and other staff to support child well-being, strengthen parent/child relationship, and to expand the family’s natural and community resources. This position will work with a caseload of families on a long-term, intensive basis, and with additional families on a short-term basis depending on the needs of families. This position must be aware of how implicit bias, power relations between service user and service providers, and systemic barriers impact a family’s ability to access supports in a meaningful way. The position works from a trauma-informed, strength-based lens that acknowledges the parent as the expert on their child and family.

Job Conditions: This position is a full-time position working 37.5 hours of work/week. Flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends, are required to meet the needs of the program and participants. The position is based out of Braemar School (9359 67A Street NW) but requires regular travel to Terra’s Main Office (10329 146 St NW) and in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide referrals, advocacy, and support to connect children and their parents with early intervention programs, play groups, community programs for children, community health centres, and health professionals
  • Increase caregivers’ knowledge regarding brain development and serve-and-return interactions, with a focus on providing hands-on support with activities, modeling, and coaching
  • Conduct home visits with a focus on supporting parents with child development goals and providing a safe, stable environment for their child(ren)
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate group programming to participants that are aligned with program outcomes and Terra’s Strategic Goals
  • Provide programming and resources that support parental capacity building and fostering of strong positive parent/child relationships
  • Ensure Services align with agency outcomes by capturing and reporting results using the agency database and submitting monthly reports.
  • Celebrate achievements with each family based on knowledge of families’ goals, milestones, and efforts towards the achievement of strong parenting behaviours
  • Ensure professional skills used to provide services and supports to clients reflect best practice by engaging in a process of continuous learning and professional development
  • Improve the knowledge and responsiveness of community institutions, groups, and individuals regarding Terra’s mission and supports to our participant population

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Learning and Care, Human Ecology, Child and Youth Care, Social Work or related Human Services program
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with youth, families, and/or children in a community-based service delivery model
  • Current Suicide Prevention Training (ASIST)
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Trauma-Informed Care training and completion of the Brain Story are preferred but not required

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to adapt communication and working style to best suit audience when interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Works independently, and effectively while under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Successfully juggles multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Must also be able to problem solve, be flexible, have critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and personal management skills

Other requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance
  • Current clear Drivers Abstract
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check that are dated within 90 Days of the start date

Salary: The salary range for the position is $44 850 to $48 750. Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution
