The Events Coordinator supports the communication and fundraising goals of the division through personal contribution to the development and implementation of public relations/communications strategies that increase organizational profile within the division.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and organize all Public Relations and Development (PRD) events. This includes developing and maintaining event planning manuals and checklists; establishing goals (monetary, attendance, etc.) for each event; securing speakers and book venues; work with event committees; preparing post-event reports outlining successes, challenges, and areas for potential growth or change; arranging debrief meetings with event committees and PRD staff for all events; preparing annual ‘SWOT’ reports for each event; building and maintaining good work relationships with vendors and venues; researching vendors and negotiating to achieve favourable terms.
- Work with members of the PR team as needed to support implementation of events, e.g., promotion, printing, guests, web stories, etc. This includes acting as lead event coordinator on event day; delegating event day tasks to PRD staff in consultation with Divisional Secretary of Public Relations (DSPR) & Divisional Director of Development (DDD); and maintaining list of volunteers and roles required for each event.
- Prepare event budgets for each event in consultation with the DSPR and DDD, and tracking and reporting on event revenues and expenses (pre and post event) with attention to fiscal and time restraints
- Organize and track ‘Kettles at Work’ program in Edmonton and Calgary
- Provide support at Ministry Unit events, when requested
- Prepare and present proposals for any new events under consideration
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- Post-secondary education in related field
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Experience:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in event planning is required, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
- Demonstrated success with fundraising events, an asset
- Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Ability to create and monitor budgets;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Superior organization and communication skills, and comfortable with publicspeaking
- Working knowledge of The Salvation Army policy and procedures an asset
Occasional travel within Edmonton as well as the province is required; therefore, must have access to a personal vehicle.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

- Valid driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract
