Cultural Festivals encompasses the Blenders Music Series and Long Day’s Night Music Festival as well as
SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival. We provide cultural experiences that contribute to a greater quality of life for our citizens, improve community pride, focus audience attention on our culture, and develop artistic literacy and awareness. We provide a series of cultural events and festivals to fulfill a need for high-quality cultural entertainment.

The SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival is a two-day free admission family festival that invites everyone to witness and experience, as well as fly along with some of the world’s superstar kite artists and performers in an open field southwest of Swift Current. Besides seeing kites that are larger than houses, there are many children’s activities, performances, and much more. And the fun doesn’t end when the sun sets. The Long Day’s Night Music Festival takes place over four nights in conjunction with the kite festival and offers a diverse selection of amazing Canadian music. Besides these two summer festivals, we also present a series of concerts from September through May, bringing the best of Canadian and
North American music to Swift Current and area.

The Event Assistant will provide organizational assistance for the kite and music festival under the direction of the Event Organizers. The main tasks and responsibilities include operations management, marketing and public relations, volunteer recruitment, infrastructure preparations, full festival site set-up and tear down. It also includes working on marketing/advertising for the festivals, actively contributing to the marketing plan and promotional campaign including press releases, media interviews, community and school tours, as well as, involvement in community events. The position also requires direct involvement with infrastructure preparations, volunteer recruitment, and all other details related to organizing and hosting a festival.

The candidate must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements for youth employment under
30 years of age.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Direct involvement and interaction in all aspects of implementing the summer festival and preliminary set-up of year-long concert series.,
• Responsible for a vast variety of tasks requiring direct interaction with volunteers, performers and summer festival patrons
• Support the coordination and execution of marketing initiatives including the production and deployment of advertising for print, digital and social media channels

• Administrative tasks: printing, laminating, writing, mailouts, cataloging, etc.
• Assist with festival infrastructure planning, setup and cleanup
• Project an enthusiastic, positive, customer service oriented public image
• Provide support to the CF Coordinator and festival production team

• Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting and training volunteers
• Other duties as assigned relating to the summer music and kite festivals and year-long concert series

Qualifications:

• Outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers
• Experience/education in tourism, event management, hospitality or related industries is an asset
• Knowledge of social media and marketing
• Must be reliable, flexible, responsible, mature, outgoing, personable and tactful
• Interest in popular music
• Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading skills, and speaking
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments
• Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision and in a team environment
• Flexibility to accommodate a varied work schedule; evening and weekend work is required along with daytime hours
• Must be able to do manual labour, lift up to 30 pounds and be on your feet for long periods
• Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• Must be available June 13th to 20th

Contract length: 16 weeks

Salary: $15.00 per hour

• Swift Current, SK S9H 4Z1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
