Job Summary

AECOM’s Environment team is actively seeking Environmental Planners with experience in P3/ alternative delivery assignments. Class Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Individual EAs. Experience obtaining approvals and consulting regulatory agencies on requirements and permitting for water, transit and transportation infrastructure projects is required along with demonstrated experience developing, implementing and managing Environmental Management Systems. The successful candidate should demonstrate solid technical competency, and a high level of skill to analyze and solve complex problems including planning and scheduling, budgeting, change and claims management, project progress, and cost estimating. The candidate must be highly motivated and accountable, work collaboratively with other team members, and be an effective communicator. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.

As part of our team, the successful applicant will lead environmental activities associated with both pre- and post- award phases of P3 projects including:
  • Collaborate within Environmental Business Line (EBL) to facilitate work planning activity and ensure team is prepared to execute and deliver pre- and post-award works; oversee pre- and post-award fee development; complete quality management and support environmental risk/change management.
  • Development, negotiation and management of environmental scope of work and fee agreements with contractors, subconsultants and project management.
  • Direct and manage environmental scope for a project, providing guidance to others while enforcing company and project policies, and liaising with clients.
  • Review and advise on legal, regulatory and commercial matters pertinent to Projects, AECOM and client/contractor.
  • Drafting of environmental contractual obligations including generation of Project Specific Output Specifications and Project Agreements.

Additional responsibilities will include working with and supporting project managers in leading EAs for various clients and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams; participation and contribution to AECOM technical practice group(s) and supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing and participation in industry associations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management/Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
  • Experience in delivery P3/ alternative delivery projects, both pre- and post-award phases.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven success in engaging design managers, discipline leads and contractors and negotiating with regulatory agencies to secure project approvals.
  • Class G driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the Transit Project Assessment Process, Ontario Environmental Assessment (EA) Act, Municipal Class EAs, and other legislation related to the position (e.g. Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act and their regulations).
