Reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer, the Electrical Engineer’s primary role is to work within the multi-disciplinary engineering team to architect and design battery management systems for energy storage systems. The energy storage systems’ power levels range from 100’s kW to 10’s of MW.
Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities include:
- Design digital and analog electronic circuits for various Corvus Battery Management System components including schematic capture, board layout, and build files.
- Verification of new circuit board designs, including troubleshooting and reworking, building and testing prototype systems, developing verification plans, and documenting results.
- Design the electrical interfaces of the battery packs to external equipment; ensure the designs comply with all relevant electrical codes and standards, EMC.
- Participate in DFMEAs on the battery system designs.
- Work with mechanical and software design teams to fulfill design functional and packaging requirements.
- Support design transfer to production, and supplier approval support (first article inspection).
- Support test engineering with EMC and other tests as required.
- Support the operations department with finding and qualifying alternate components as required.
- Support customer-facing groups with technical requests as required.
- Occasional travel to customer sites to discuss the technical aspects of products and/or support commissioning or service activities.
- Comply with Corvus procedures for configuration management and product data management (engineering change orders, revision management, etc).
Skills and Experience:
- Engineering degree (BASc or MASc) with 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in digital (microprocessor with peripheral interfaces) and mixed-signal hardware design (A/D and high voltage isolation implementation, signal conditioning, noise immunity, multi-cell battery management).
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer.
- Experience with the hardware design implementation of various communication protocols USB, I2C, RS232/485 Ethernet, and Modbus.
- Experience with wireless communication designs (Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee) is an asset.
- Hands-on experience building and reworking circuit boards, both through a hole and surface mount (prototype quality only).
- SPICE simulation experience is an asset.
- Some software design experience is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong relationship/interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
About Corvus Energy:
Founded in 2009, Corvus Energy provides purpose-engineered energy storage solutions for marine, oil & gas and port applications. Corvus Energy has the largest installed base of ESSs with the largest number of projects completed in the maritime industry. More than 90% of large commercial hybrid vessels utilize a Corvus ESS. Custom developed mechanical and electrical design combined with state-of-the-art battery management systems, provides Corvus Energy’s customers with not only lower maintenance costs but also reduced fuel consumption, and emissions. A Corvus ESS assists with regulatory compliance and emission control area (ECA) limits and provides immediate benefits with a rapid return on investment.
