Summary

DSAS is an organization that seeks to support students in navigating University policies and processes. The Education & Outreach Coordinator works to build knowledge about social media through liaising with students, the university, and marketing on social media platforms. Students often reach out after becoming aware of DSAS through social media or other advertising efforts. During outreach initiatives, a key goal of this position is to also educate students on what is academic integrity, and best practices during their time at Dalhousie.


Duties and Responsibilities

Outreach

  • Attend Sexton and Studley society fairs, organize volunteers and promotional materials for tabling;
  • Liaise with campus societies, supports and groups including (but not limited to): International Student Center, NSPIRG, South House, Dal Out, Dal Allies, DSU, KSU, Black Student Advising Center, Human Rights Office (Dal), Native Student Center (4th floor SUB), Sexual Assault Phone Line (right beside the DSAS offices), Dal Science Society, Dal and King’s Peer Support Groups, Melda Murry Student Centre, Academic Integrity Committee;
  • Attend events to stay engaged in on-campus issues;

Education

  • Coordinate the creation and maintenance of education materials:

o workshops on issues such as academic integrity, sexual harassment, accommodations, discrimination, and the Student Code of Conduct;

o pamphlet guides to policies, including those related to academic integrity, accommodations, sexual harassment, discrimination, and the Student Code of Conduct;

o create and update the online platform for policy guides;

  • Coordinate the distribution of outreach materials, including posters;
  • Co-ordinate creation of educational materials in cooperation with DSU Communications;

Social Media Management

  • Managing the DSAS Facebook and Instagram pages;
  • Creating content for regular posts on all social media platforms;
  • Utilizing social media management platforms such as Airtable;
  • Working with the DSU to identify any campaigns that should be promoted;

Internal DSAS Duties

  • Co-Chair the Education Policy and Outreach Committee;
  • Hold regular meetings for advocate volunteers in Education/Outreach Committee and organize volunteers in the facilitation of workshops and outreach;
  • Assist the Executive Directors to co-ordinate advocate recruitment, including attending the Law School society fair;
  • Work with the Executive team to facilitate advocate trainings in September and January;
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Managers;
  • Actively taking on cases when needed, and
  • Prepare an annual report concerning their duties to be submitted to the External Relations Manager no later than April 30, 2024.

Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  • Current Schulich School of Law student;
  • Current (or former) DSAS volunteer.

Recommended:

  • Knowledge of social media platforms including Linktree, Instagram, Facebook, Airtable, and other social media management platforms
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Experience facilitating workshops or educational programming;
  • Experience managing volunteers and committees;
  • Some knowledge of Dalhousie internal structures and resources;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Self-motivated;
  • Strong commitment to DSAS mandate;
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive practices.
