Museum Education Coordinator

Term: 14-month term position (covering maternity leave) Starting August 1, 2023, and ending September 30, 2024

Job Type: Seasonal, full-time (35 hours weekly)

Location: Musée Héritage Museum, St. Albert, AB

Workdays: 35 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, with evening and weekend work as required to facilitate events and programs.

Wage: $57,154 - $58,869 pa ($31.41–$32.35 hourly)

The Arts and Heritage Foundation of St. Albert has a term position as the Museum Education Coordinator at the Musée Héritage Museum and Heritage Sites. As the coordinator, you will lead the program team and deliver the region’s creative, relevant, quality school and community programming. This position also works to generate awareness of the museum and heritage sites as a learning resource for teachers and students, promoting a greater appreciation of the history and culture of St. Albert.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering school and community programs.
  • Providing leadership and supervision of the program team.
  • Liaising with the registrar to organize and book education programs at the museum, heritage sites and in-school field trips.
  • Scheduling museum educators to lead and prep for programs.
  • Coordinating the purchasing of program supplies.
  • Liaising with teachers and community groups.
  • Preparing monthly program reports and statistics.
  • Representing the museum at Arts and Heritage program meetings
  • Assist the Heritage Sites Manager in preparing the River Lot programs for the season.
  • Working with the museum curator to coordinate the activities in the Discovery Room with current exhibitions.
  • Maintain the educational space and curate the displays within the educational area.
  • Working with the marketing department to promote programs through print materials, website and social media.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience running educational and community programs in a museum or heritage setting.
  • Experience supervising and scheduling a program team of up to four members.
  • Strong organizational skills and be able to work on multiple projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta curriculum.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • A positive outlook.
  • Awareness of Indigenous protocols.
