Girl Guides of Canada is seeking an EDITOR

About this opportunity:

GGC is seeking an EDITOR to provide editorial and writing support for our fun and empowering non-formal programming for girls. Our programs support Girls in five branches: Sparks age 5-6, Brownies age 7-9, Guides age 9 -11, Pathfinders age 12-14, Rangers age 15-17. Programming is delivered by women, ages 18+. If you are a creative and critical thinker, an excellent editor, and passionate about providing relevant and high-quality programming to Girls, then we look forward to hearing from you!

The Editor will:

· Lead the development of the Program editorial calendar in consultation with Program Manager, Program team, Comms team and coordinate deliverables from graphic and writing team.

· Review, proofread and edit all programming content and provide direction to writers and graphic designers on best practices with respect to format/focus, language, developmental level and style.

· Create, edit and proofread girl program pieces; copy edit or line editing as needed.

· Consult with teams on bringing a dynamic voice to member-facing content for website, newsletters, social medial, and internal communication pieces in collaboration with the Comms Team

· Support processes including French Translation prioritization; file management

· Promote and maintain the Girls First/programming style guide that supports the overall GGC style guide, ensuring content is Girl focused and will engage Girls

· Rewrite content, as needed, for clarity and consistency

· Ensure consistency of style and accuracy of all content, fact checking as needed

· Consult with team regarding all editorial-related questions

· You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves and working to leverage the potential of thousands of volunteers to deliver on GGC’s mission “to be a catalyst for girls empowering girls”

· You have a degree in English, Communications, Journalism or equivalent post-secondary education

· You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience editing, copyediting and writing

· 2 years’ experience overseeing multifaceted projects with competing priorities in a professional setting

· You have experience editing in a children’s/youth market, particularly with non-fiction, instructional and reference content

· You have excellent copyediting and proofreading skills

· You have knowledge of CP style guide

· You are highly detail oriented with a thorough command of grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure

· You possess excellent organizational skills and ability to accommodate schedules and meet deadlines

· You possess the ability to work independently and quickly on several projects simultaneously and to prioritize work

· You possess the ability to work as part of a team – sharing ideas and information

· You have strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

· You are highly self-motivated, energetic, and outcome-oriented

· You have strong computer skills – MSOffice, Adobe, and other online publishing software

Additional assets:

· Experience working with girls and young women

· Experience with project management

· Experience working with a diverse population of volunteers within the non-profit or charitable sector

· Knowledge of/experience with Guiding

· French language skills/fluency
