POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Supply Chain is accountable for procurement of equipment, materials and services as well as providing oversight to Dsons Transport’s supply chain including logistics, warehousing, transportation and receiving. The candidate will also be responsible for negotiating contracts with vendors, the formation of contracts and contract management. Preference will be given to those candidates living in and around Leduc, AB.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as the leader of the supply chain department working with the Executive group and operations to develop and refine supply chain strategy, negotiate key supplier agreements and leases, manage and maintain contractor agreements, lead warehousing/inventory initiatives, set capital budgets, support project and annual functional area budgets, application choices and maintenance components of the supply chain, etc.
  • Provide direction, priorities and management of the company’s supply chain strategy
  • Ensure there is a rigorous process around procurement of subcontract work on projects
  • Serve as the member of the company’s internal project management team once established. The team will establish priorities, make corporate project management assignments, and ensure all internal corporate projects are delivered on time and with maximum effectiveness
  • Provide leadership to purchasing team to ensure consistent application of purchasing processes and procedures
  • Provide leadership to the Equipment and Maintenance division on procurement, management, maintenance and disposal of equipment fleet
  • Manage the overall budget for the department, including capital expenditure plan
  • Develop and maintain key supplier relationships to provide value to our customer
  • Accountable for contract development, negotiation, recommendations, implementation and administration of all Procurement contracts
  • Accountable for planning, forecasting and analytics to ensure inventory and supply of equipment, materials and services arrive at the job site when needed
  • Provide complete documentation for purchasing, contract management, supply chain policies and procedures
  • Accountable for the research and analysis of the vendor market
  • Provide efficient, timely and compliant procurement of services and materials in alignment with the business unit requirements and corporate/regulatory policies
  • Accountable for timely and accurate storage, management and delivery of parts and materials to the business units as per agreed service standards
  • Develop and lead the people within the Supply Chain group to be a high functioning and multi-disciplinary team aligned to Dsons Transport’s Core Values of Team, Excellence, Respect, Duty, Integrity and Protect
  • Accountable to operate within and as necessary, create company policies, procedures, standards, regulatory and legal requirements and ensure that these requirements are understood and adhered to by employees
  • Participate and support governance audits around leases, supplier agreements and other governance requirements
  • Accountable to think critically about the business and support continuous development
  • Accountable to contribute to strong business cases
  • Provide input to industry standards and guidelines, when relevant

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or supply chain required. Master’s Degree in logistics, supply chain or business an asset
  • People leader with 10+ years’ experience in supply chain leadership required
  • Preference given for candidates with Institute for Supply Management (ISM), CPSM and/or CPSD certification
  • Preference for PMP certification
  • Understand procurement data systems for tracking and approvals of purchases
  • Solid understanding of Change Management theory and practice

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency with material management analytics
  • Ability to collect business requirements and translate into RFQ/RFPs
  • Able to apply understanding of the industry and how own area contributes to the achievement of objectives
  • Demonstrated skills in systems-thinking and related actions
  • Demonstrated capability to identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems
  • Excellent leadership skills creating an environment for enhanced employee engagement, collaboration and high performance
  • Strong strategic skills balanced with a “roll up the sleeves” attitude and ability to get into the details
  • Knowledge of vendor contract negotiation and development
  • Knowledge of procurement and warehousing best practices, processes, and regulatory standards
  • Knowledge of industrial construction and equipment
  • Financial knowledge to develop, implement, and manage financial budget for functional area
  • Able to build strong networks to support continuous development
  • Strong ability to guide, influence and persuade others; negotiation skills to gain agreement
  • Ability to negotiate contracts with various vendors of services and materials

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • When visiting jobsites, the work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises
