Lead product development for one of the fastest growing and exciting brands on the market! Inkbox is seeking a passionate, creative, and organized leader to head up new product development on the Research & Innovation Team. This Director level role is responsible for driving all aspects of the product development process: intuiting global fashion, beauty, and cultural trends; understanding and leveraging consumer and POS data; developing winning product concepts and overseeing all phases of development of new consumer products. The right individual will be a beauty expert who is also highly organized and attuned to deadlines, brand strategy and financial targets.

You are an excellent communicator, organized, a multi-tasker and problem-solver. An aptitude to function within deadlines while working both independently and as a part of a team is essential.

// Key Responsibilities:

  • Integral in idea generation process, working directly with the Executive Team, particularly the CEO
  • Manage R&I team to drive the conceptualization, initiation, development, evaluation and follow-through of new product launches. Provide quality mentorship, training and development for direct reports.
  • Own and establish product innovation roadmap, clearly defining new product development initiatives and existing product improvements
  • Actively seek out market and cosmetic trends to ensure Inkbox products remain competitive and relevant in the marketplace
  • Lead formulation development of all Inkbox tattoo product lines, including new colour formulation development
  • Establish and maintain quality standards for all product lines
  • Achieve cosmetic regulatory standards in Canada, US, Europe and rest of world as it pertains to safety, quality, shelf life, performance and usability
  • Directly in charge of all regulatory affairs, product safety, product quality, handing off to manufacturers, and building and managing the research and innovation team.
  • Handle communication, documentation, and compliance of all formulation data, including changes.
  • Stay current on upcoming global formulation restrictions and retailer restrictions to continually update each product’s “no list” and reformulation needs.
  • Develop challenge testing strategy ensuring stable formulas and testing protocols for claims substantiation
  • Work with marketing and education teams to provide clear direction on ingredient technology, claims, performance features and benefits of formula and packaging.
  • Provide our design team with clear understanding of new product launch features, benefits and claims.
  • Collaborate with creative/design team and packaging vendors to ensure alignment and accuracy on packaging options, color matching, artwork, proofing, and new launch standards
  • Collaborate and Partner with Marketing, Packaging, Supply Chain and Manufacturing in each step of the development process
  • Participate in cross functional meetings to clearly communicate a product’s development progress.
  • Provide constant daily communication on major changes to a product that may affect launch dates.
  • Review all PR and Education materials and Copy for alignment of communication as it was intended and ensure accuracy of content
  • A continuous improvement mentality to build new and improve current processes on an ongoing basis

Requirements:

  • 10-12 years of product development experience in cosmetics and beauty
  • College/University degree in science related field. Chemist background is preferred. MBA is a bonus.
  • Must be exceptionally creative and innovative, and be able to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to lead, engage and empower cross-functional teams in a research and innovation setting.
  • Strong presenter - Must be able to persuasively communicate new product ideas and concepts to both internal and external groups.
  • Deep knowledge of the Product Development process
  • Deep understanding of regulatory compliance for ingredients and US/EU/ROW legislation changes
  • Proficient in systems, software, and processes relevant to the R&D and Regulatory functions
  • Experienced in packaging development and manufacturing of packaging
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully organize and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge/expertise of Skin and knowledge of science/ technical concepts
  • Effective negotiator - able to gain cooperation at all levels, inside and outside the department
  • Needs to be highly organized and able to prioritize effectively
  • Ability to establish priorities, procedures and policies effectively
