Why is this role important?

The Director, Procurement Excellence(Practices, Analytics, Supplier Relationship Management and Digital Procurement) will join the team supporting the Enterprise Procurement Group. This leadership role will support the Enterprise Procurement Group by providing strategy and solutions across the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for indirect procurement (i.e. goods and services not for resale): strategic planning, sourcing and category strategies, optimization of procurement processes, spend visibility and analytics to identify and drive value based initiatives. Also included in their role is accountability for the Supplier Relationship Management process and the operational support for digital procurement tools. The Director will work closely with other procurement leads by category to clearly define and execute on strategies aligned to the overall Enterprise Procurement objectives, ensuring they are grounded by analytics, market intelligence, and align to Digital Procurement practices. The Director will manage a group of 12 procurement professionals across Analytics, Supplier Relationship Management and Digital Procurement.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage the leads of each functional group and ensure that their respective teams are aligned with the appropriate projects and direction
  • Collaborate with EPG Category to ensure alignment to and delivery of overall EPG objectives
  • Lead business process reengineering to identify opportunities for efficiency, automation and better controls by collaboratively working with internal stakeholders and process owners.
  • Lead, develop and drive the establishment of Procurement Performance Measurements, (i.e. SLA, KPIs, etc.), conducting the necessary monitoring collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and support the development of the Category Management Strategies introducing best practices through process standardizations, tools and templates
  • Work alongside EPG Category Leads to deliver value through complex and strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Lead supply market research (e.g., market structure, behavior, barriers to entry, pricing, quality, product changes, service levels, trends)
  • Lead assessments of suppliers within spend categories, including risk level; Assist in effective strategic supplier relationship management, risk analysis and compliance management programs with regards to category management
  • Support supplier selection and negotiation processes through providing timely, data-driven analytics to support identification and quantification of value improvement opportunities
  • Provide insights on category spend and savings opportunities based on rigorous data analysis, industry benchmarks and experience working with other category teams
  • Creation of presentations to be presented to senior level executives
  • Support the tracking, analysis and improvement of category benefits and other key performance metrics
  • Support other special procurement activities and analysis as needed by senior management
  • Lead the development of the Annual EPG Strategic Plan
  • Key lead for compliance and risk mitigation process management and activities including annual controls testing and internal audit requirements
  • Lead and manage the implementation and growth of the Supplier Relationship Management program
  • Manage the operational support of procurement tools and systems

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong experience in best in class procurement processes
  • Knowledge of the procurement process, including strategic procurement and has the ability to contribute information and expertise to drive results
  • Comfortable with a broad range of research tools and technologies, analytics and financial analyses
  • Strong experience with Digital Procurement tools and systems (Ariba/Fieldglass/SAP)
  • Sound knowledge on best-in class P2P process improvement methodologies
  • Work experience in matrix organizations across functions and teams
  • Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders (e.g. business, areas) to deliver results
  • Experience in process development and improvement
  • Strong experience in building and presenting strategic deliverables to senior level executives

Role Requirements:

  • A minimum of B.Eng/BComm in business, a quantitative field or engineering (MBA preferred)
  • 10 years relevant experience (including financial reporting/analysis, process improvement and consulting)
  • Previous experience within strategic sourcing
  • Lean Six Sigma/Process Improvement experience
  • Previous experience with project management
  • Previous experience with large program implementation and management
  • Previous experience with SAP and Ariba would be an asset
  • Strong people leadership and interpersonal skills focused on team development
  • Intrinsically strong and structured approach to problem solving

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Passion for cost reduction and value creation


Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel, Power BI and PowerPoint skills
  • Technical knowledge of SAP, Ariba and Fieldglass

  • Experience in giving presentations to senior level executives
  • Ability to summarize complex data into key insights
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team
