POSITION SUMMARY:
The Town of Taber is seeking a professional, hardworking, detailed orientated person to join our senior management Team. Reporting to the CAO, the Director of Planning and Community Services is responsible for the coordination of all planning, economic, and community services related activities. This includes strategic planning, new business generation, promotion of the Town in general and all other duties related to the position. A strong management background with a technical background in planning, economic development, recreation, and community services, as well the ability to work well in a multi- disciplinary environment are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide input and recommendations to the CAO, Senior Leadership Team and Council regarding the Town’s strategic planning and implementation, policies and programs, issue resolution, procedural and other management, and operational matters.

Oversees all Community Services functions, establishing effective systems, procedures, controls and checks and balances; ensure a balanced portfolio of service offerings and make recommendation for improvements.

Professional work, which involves advising and assisting the Town in planning matters and the subdivision approval process.

To improve and maintain the economic base of the Town of Taber by encouraging businesses and industries to locate in the community.

To prepare, monitor, develop and present planning reports and recommendations, including Statutory Plans and Land Use By-Laws.

To encourage the expansion of existing businesses and industries, with a focus on retaining these organizations. Focus on creating and retaining jobs in our community.

To support and/or assist with tourism promotion and marketing of the Town of Taber.

To provide leadership & support the Town’s various recreation facilities/parks, Aquafun Centre and related programming.

Train, mentor, and support department staff to ensure their success and professional growth, conduct performance reviews on an annual basis.

Actively participate in the Town of Taber’s Health and Safety Program and assist to construct a positive culture where health and safety are prioritized.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A post-secondary degree in Public or Business Administration enhanced by the completion of courses in local government and leadership. Other various combinations of education and training may be considered.

Extensive experience at a senior leadership level managing a multi-faceted operation; a minimum of 5 years in municipal government is preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge in urban and regional planning, with experience in land use planning, strategic planning, organizational processes and systems, government relations and policy analysis.

7 years of experience with a focus on planning; hands-on experience with development activities including subdivisions; economic development experience would be an asset.

Experience with recreation facilities and parks would be considered an asset.

A solid understanding and experience in Municipal Emergency Management.

Minimum seven years’ experience in a managerial capacity.

Understanding of a Unionized environment and supervision within a Unionized environment would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated experience in successfully dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders such as Council, developers, homeowners, engineers, consultants, government officials, etc.

Highly developed leadership and time management skills.

Exceptional communication, presentation and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to contribute to a team environment.

Ability and experience to work efficiently in a computerized environment.

Ability and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent interpersonal, public relation and technical skills.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Ability to provide a driver’s abstract.

Ability to provide a clean Police Information Check.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Permanent Full Time

HOURS OF WORK:
37.5 hrs./week

SALARY :
$123,330-$132,813 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
