The Calgary Food Bank is looking a Digital Communications Coordinator to join our Organizational Services team!

Summary: This is position is responsible for coordinating, planning, creating, and producing engaging communications. Responsible for developing visual communications collateral, social media strategy, maintaining the website and managing the brand.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Communications and Media Relations Supervisor to achieve organizational communications goals.
  • Manage the organization’s message, brand, image, voice, and mission ensuring consistency.
  • Implement communications strategy across all social media platforms.
  • Develop video, photography, and graphic design elements for a variety of media formats.
  • Develop creative, influential, and compelling marketing and communications collateral.
  • Accountable for the organization’s external website. Requires expertise, skills and education for proper display and functionality of visual and written communications, design, and function.
  • Work directly with external sponsors, partners, vendors and/or consultants to ensure consistency in brand, voice, image, and mission.
  • Provide online digital storytelling and campaign support.
  • Working directly with the Community Engagement team to plan for successful achievement of fundraising goals when assisting with creation of content and collateral for special events, third party events, food drives and sponsorship needs.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with volunteers, donors, media, society members, general public, and other organizations.
  • Support internal, event, and crisis communications and media relations.

Tasks Performed:

  • Maintain and enhance website, create strategic written and visual content, analyze usage, and implement recommendations.
  • Accountability for developing and implementing social media strategy, graphics, photos, videos, messaging, content, and scheduling. Accountability for errors, omissions and repair where required.
  • Reply, monitor and engage with external audience across social media platforms.
  • Analyze, report, and implement changes for social media based on results.
  • Develop and implement a digital marketing strategy, including e-communications and digital advertising.
  • Design and develop marketing and communications materials such as infographics, fact sheets, brochures, fundraising campaigns and webpages, advertising.
  • Develop or facilitate the development of photography and video content.
  • Build and maintain visual asset library.
  • Ensure consistency (look, feel and voice) in all internal and external communications.
  • Provide support to ensure on brand look and feel of training materials.
  • Assist with external fundraising or information pages as needed (Canada Helps, Charity Village)

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in marketing, digital communications, new media production and design, or related field.
  • Minimum three to five years’ experience in marketing, digital communications, multimedia, or related field.
  • Superb graphic and visual design skills.
  • Strong digital marketing, communication and writing skills.
  • Expertise with photography, videography and editing.
  • Experience with planning, developing, and creating digital videos.
  • Proven aptitude managing social media platforms and websites.
  • Proficiency with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom), video editing software, MailChimp and the Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics and Hootsuite.
  • Candidates are required to pass a criminal record check.

  • Understanding of not-for-profit organizations and the charitable sector.
  • Proven ability to achieve objectives, work under pressure and within deadlines both independently as part of a team.
  • Adhere to a client-centric and donor-centric work attitude.
  • Capable and comfortable with managing, organizing, and developing relationships with senior management.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and may require occasional visits to the warehouse. Candidate must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time, lift and carry items and do some walking in preparation for events.

This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 5 day a week, 7.5 hours per day position. The qualified candidate must be open to working outside of normal business hours and weekends. Hours worked beyond the regular work hours will be earned and taken as lieu time.
