As the Customer Data Strategist you are responsible for monitoring the timely and accurate water utility customer billing data collection from the third-party billing provider, and the analysis and dissemination of information for use throughout the water utility. This position is the subject matter expert and responsible data steward of the utility billing data set which is of significant strategic importance as it is the primary data set generated from metering customers to billing them to receiving payment. This role exists to monitor and analyse the data set on an ongoing basis to identify trends, flag anomalies, and irregularities requiring action and develop and present the necessary performance monitoring that contributes to reducing revenue risk, customer experience risk, and ensuring proper contract management of the third party vendor. Primary duties include:
  • Analysis, compilation, summarization, and dissemination of customer billing data. Performing analysis on the data using appropriate analytical software, verification of data, production of graphs/tables/maps depicting the data and preparing reports and performance measurement dashboards. This primarily involves the use of databases, spreadsheets, and geographic information system (GIS) analytical tools.
  • Monitor and trending of data to conduct root cause analysis on anomalies, interpret the data, identify key areas of risk and provide recommendations on actions based on the results.
  • Maintain, update, and troubleshoot databases and software housing customer billing data in collaboration with Information Technology team.
  • Ensure data security and integrity, managing requests for access to the data from City of Calgary employees, and contractors and consultants working on The City’s behalf ensuring appropriate and approved use of customer billing data.
Qualifications
  • A degree with additional training and education in data analytics, data management, and statistics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Previous experience analysing data, preparing and making presentations to groups including senior management is required.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and Outlook) and geographic information system (GIS) analytical tools..
  • Previous experience in data analytics, asset and risk management, project management and strong analytical skills would be considered an asset.
  • You have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills along with attention to detail.
  • As a team member you can work both collaboratively as well as independently.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse levels of staff, management, as well as the third party billing provider.
