Overview

The Controller is responsible for providing concise financial information and guidance in all areas of the operation of Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited, including the Mill, Woodlands, and Deer Lake Power facilities. The Controller is a key member of the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited’s Senior Management Team. The incumbent is responsible for all financial, accounting and taxation functions, purchasing and stores functions, as well as information systems. The Controller will lead and direct these various teams.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Act as a key player on the management team, assisting in the establishment of financial controls and measures for the various mill departments and participating in all financial decision-making activities.
• Liaise with Head Office to provide financial information pertaining to Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited.
• Support and advise the VP & General Manager on all aspects of accounting and finance activities.
• Collaborate the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports and analysis to senior and corporate management as required.
• Coordinate the accuracy and timely preparation of financial reports. Manage spending so as to adhere to the approved budgets with close collaboration with CBPPL department’s leaders.
• Manage company cash flow and provide regular forecasts for operating groups.
• Establish and support measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Mill. Measure monthly KPI results for the operation and share this information with all departments
• Supervise and oversee the activities of taxation, including corporate income tax, research and development, federal/provincial sales, payroll taxes, etc. in collaboration with internal and external partners.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives within finance and procurement to drive efficiencies, and provide financial advise to other groups to facilitate decision making.
  
  

Qualifications And Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce Engineering, or other relevant field, along with a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation
• Minimum of ten years experience in managerial accounting, preferably in a unionized, manufacturing environment.
• Ability to maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
• Progressive supervisory and management experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• An ability to establish and shift priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Knowledge and experience with JD Edwards, would be an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Safety oriented
• The Successful Candidate(s) will be required to submit a Certificate of Conduct from a local police agency or the RCMP before commencing employment.
