The Control System Engineer is responsible for new PLC hardware design, electrical design, and programming for the Attabotics storage system. This role will work with mechanical and systems engineers to create new standard designs to meet product requirements and to achieve a scalable and commercialized product architecture. The Control System Engineer will develop controls specifications, templates, designs, configurations, and validation activities to ensure the technical quality and regulatory compliance of their designs.

Who you are
  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in PLC controls systems design demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
  • Registered P.Eng or P.L.Eng with APEGA, is preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of PLC hardware design, Control panel layout & design, Low voltage power distribution systems, I/O wiring, and Loop drawings
  • Experience programming using structured text, ladder logic and C++
  • Knowledge and experience working with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Modbus andTCP/IP communications, etc
  • Aptitude for hands-on mechanical & electrical to test and prototype new designs.
  • Experience in designing to applicable UL/CSA electrical and safety standards
  • Experience with Beckhoff PLCs in industrial machine design or configurable product design and specification, is an asset
  • Experience in product development projects, deploying commercially acceptable designs into production
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • You prioritize working safely and making sure your health and safety as well as those of your co-workers is part of your job
  • Passion for mechatronics, mechanical engineering, and robotics
  • Motivated, driven, self-starter willing to take on a multitude of tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
What we need
  • Continuously develop the Attabotics PLC Control Systems hardware and code to support the company’s product needs to support new markets and product features.
  • Author panel drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, single line drawings, control narratives, and system typicals, in support of the control system and overall product definition
  • Work collaboratively with software, construction, manufacturing, operations, and IT teams to ensure proper quality and seamless integration of new releases
  • Support and develop implementation and commissioning instructions for manufacturing, including material handling and processing systems, machine programming and interfacing
  • Provide technical direction for the design and development of controls systems for new products and changes to existing designs
  • Review controls and electrical designs for functionality, safety, reliability, cost of production, test, and maintenance/service
  • Drive designs and documentation through an Engineering Change release process
  • Contribute to department practices, procedures, and engineering best habits
