What to expect in the role
You’ll be supporting adults with developmental, physical, and complex psychiatric disabilities in a community setting. With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will:
  • Provide medical, technological, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
  • Participate in the research, development, and implementation of client programs
  • Proactively identify and develop solution for client concerns
  • Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand client needs
  • Complete required client documentation effectively
One weekend a month (Some flexibility required): You’ll start your day by meeting your client at their home and assist with their day-to-day activities such as volunteering at the animal shelter, swimming, music therapy, or whatever else your client chooses to participate in. Driving is required.

What you bring
You take pride in being a team player who is compassionate and attentive with proven critical thinking skills. You are not afraid to try new things and consistently demonstrate strong communication skills. You are responsible, patient, and can keep calm under pressure. You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to really get to know your client and act in their best interest, while maintaining professional boundaries.

Requirements
  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate in the Human Services sector plus one-year relevant experience in the human services field is preferred (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Valid class 5 driver license and a reliable vehicle
  • Valid experience in mental health and a proven track record of providing consistent and effective support for individuals with OCD
  • Comfortable supporting clients with a number of behaviours which can be intimidating
  • Familiarity with autism and sensory needs is an asset
  • You will receive mandatory training in harm reduction/ addictions
