The Opportunity:

Our Community Services Department is seeking to hire a Community Support Worker (CSW), to join their team for a term assignment. Reporting to the Manager, Family and Community Support Services, this position is responsible for guiding clients experiencing distress, through the complex system of social supports available to them. The CSW will provide assessment, strength-based action-oriented support, outreach, skill building, and supported referrals to youth and young adults, 15-24 years and with a range of social situations (mental health, poverty, family violence, addictions, separation and divorce) of a non-clinical nature. This may include accompanying clients and assisting with accessing service systems to address barriers to support. Coordinating services to reduce fragmentation and improve service delivery and facilitate linkages between clients and community supports may also be required.

The Community Support Worker must be able to build strong collaborative relationships with community members, and service providers to facilitate seamless service delivery.
The Community Support Worker develops, implements and evaluates capacity building approaches. This may involve providing psycho-educational skill building sessions, workshops and information sessions to, youth, and young adults. The focus is on prevention and early intervention.

The individual we seek possesses excellent consultation, public speaking, effective listening, conflict resolution, mediation, facilitation and advocacy skills. Community Development skills and experience is required to identify community assets, issues and in order to build capacity and address system barriers.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Family Studies or related combined with at least 5 years of direct experience working with children, youth and families.
  • Experience with vulnerable clients is an asset.
  • Experience with risk assessment, crisis intervention, suicide awareness and prevention techniques and safety planning.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of clients and stakeholders and facilitate and build relationships.
  • Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is preferred.
  • The role requires an individual with well developed interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (specifically Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Applicants must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business use are required.

Hours of Work:

This position works a compressed schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly. The core hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks, but there will be a requirement for weekend and evening hours.

Compensation:

$75,985 - $93,520 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.

TERM:
This is a term position to October 2022.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

New Employees joining the City on or after September 27, 2021, must have one approved dose. Employees joining after October 25, 2021, must be fully vaccinated. Proof of vaccination provided by Alberta Health Services will be required prior to start. Exemptions may be considered but will need to be reviewed and validated before commencing work with the City of St. Albert. Those with approved exemptions will be required to submit negative test results twice a week before entering a City worksite.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clear vulnerable sector police information check.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
  • A Class 5 driver’s licence and the use of a personal vehicle for work use are required for this role.
