Position: Community Engagement Coordinator

Position Scope: This position will ensure the active engagement of community members through marketing and outreach work. The position will also be responsible for the organization and fundraising of special events. This position will report directly to the Executive Director, ILNS.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Work collaboratively with staff and initiate as well as participate in outreach opportunities with other organizations, government agencies, etc.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of an outreach strategy with the Executive Director and Executive Assistant
  • Promote the vision, mission, strategic goals, and Independent Living (IL) principles of the organization

Website and Social Media - work collaboratively with support staff to:

  • Maintain and update the ILNS WordPress website
  • Regularly prepare data reports using Google Analytics for the ILNS website as well as ILNS’ social media channels
  • Monitor and update as appropriate, Google Alerts notifications to select relevant and important media to share with our social media networks
  • Prepare appropriate social media posts, accommodating graphics, and when necessary, a social media schedule for our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram channels.
  • Monitor the ILNS social media channel and respond to messages and post comments

Special Event Support

  • Assist in virtual and in person special event organization and execution
  • Reach out to previous event sponsors for continued financial support and identify potential future opportunities for support
  • Contact politicians from all levels of government for continued support through the selling of advertising.

Office Administration

  • Use computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to prepare reports, memos, and documents.
  • Update and ensure the accuracy of email group lists and organization’s databases
  • Sort incoming mail, emails, and courier deliveries for distribution
  • Forward incoming general e-mails to the appropriate staff member
  • Receive and store office supplies ensuring that basic supplies are always available
  • Provide administrative support to Executive Director
  • Coordinate the maintenance of office equipment.

Reception

  • Answer general phone inquiries using a professional and courteous manner; transfer phone calls to appropriate staff members; check, respond, or pass along phone messages to appropriate staff members
  • Reply to information requests with accurate and current information
  • Greet consumers/suppliers/visitors to the organization in a professional and friendly manner

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate would possess:

  • Post-secondary education or sufficient experience in event coordination, designing and applying marketing strategies, and/or administrative support ;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the disability community and disability-related issues;
  • Sound organizational skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and community stakeholders
  • Proven leadership experience;
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Google Suite applications (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.);
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable working in a self-directed team environment;
  • Ability to adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, code of conduct, policies, and procedures;
  • Current criminal record check;
  • Current First-Aid Level A an asset.
  • Applicant to show proof of both COVID vaccines

Conditions of Work:

  • This position is based on a 35 hour work week, although some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate various community-based activities. This is a 7-month contract position until March 31, 2022. Position may be renewed depending on funding availability.
