The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is Canadas leading public gallery devoted exclusively to the art of our time and is recognized as an important centre for contemporary art in North America. Since 1987, The Power Plant has been on a mission to create an open culture and community for people to be face-to-face with thought-provoking contemporary art and ideas. We have a culturally-diverse audience whose lives and communities we seek to enrich through encouraging exploration of self and society.More than a gallery, The Power Plant is a community hub that caters to adults, youth, and children through broad and unique programming. It is a window into a diverse range of ideas and perspectives that inspire unlimited personal discovery.

We are currently looking to add to the team a collaborative, creative and dynamic Communications & Marketing Coordinator to coordinate the implementation of an effective and integrated branding and marketing strategy, including marketing production, outreach initiatives, thought leadership, and media relations. The ideal candidate is organized, curious, possesses a passion for the arts and is experienced building relationships with key media contacts. This position is a good fit for a highly motivated individual who can work well in a team setting, as well as manage individual projects effectively.

Position Title:Communications & Marketing Coordinator
Reporting To: Communications & Marketing Manager
Type of Employment: Full-time, 35-hour work week
Compensation: $45,000 - $50,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package

Duties:
  • Coordinate and implement strategies for branding and promoting The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery as a public facility and attraction.
  • Roll out communications for all of The Power Plants portfolio of activities including the gallerys exhibitions and events, fundraising, outreach programs and public programs by engaging with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support press outreach and monitoring (including media pitching and supporting incoming requests, updating event listings, collecting editorial calendars, compiling press clippings into summary reports as needed).
  • Research and propose communications & marketing strategies and best practices for the visual arts community and arts and culture sector; provide the Marketing & Communications Manager with updated reports to maximize the gallerys exposure.
  • Adhere to brand tone and guidelines, making sure all interactions forward The Power Plant’s mission and mandate.
  • Support the production and distribution of print materials, including liaising with relevant departments, photographers, designers and printers, compiling content, formatting, proofreading and giving feedback.
  • Responsible for the project management and production of the Annual Report by collecting, analyzing, archiving and reporting on results of specific marketing efforts; incorporating data from numerous departments and external sources.
  • Manage onsite photo and video shoots.
  • Assist with administrative duties and event support as needed.


Skills & Requirements:
Essential Criteria
  • Track record of success with at least 2-4 years or more of Communications and Marketing or Journalism
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Experienced in managing production schedules and third-party vendors to ensure that printed materials are high quality and delivered on time.
  • A curious people-person who stays at the pulse of current trends and industry best practices.
  • Keen interest in audience development and community building in the cultural sector.
  • Commitment to championing diversity and inclusion across all communications and marketing at The Power Plant.
  • Experience in a Marketing and PR agency or professional journalism background are preferred, although candidates with relevant work experiences will also be considered.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid employment Visa and proper documentation authorizing their ability to work in Canada.
  • Remote work from home is currently in place, however the candidate must be able to work on site at our downtown lakeside gallery as needed, and when our return to work plan is implemented.
  • The Power Plant recognizes its heightened duty to protect employees from health and safety risks during the current pandemic. Therefore, an offer of employment shall be conditional upon proof of vaccination with a vaccine series approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization.

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience with Adobe Software is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the media landscape and excellent media relationship-building skills—existing press contacts is a bonus.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
