The Opportunity:


As part of the Resource Staff Team the Canoe & Kayak Director will be responsible for the delivery of a quality Canoe and Kayak program for all Camp Glenburn participants.


Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for planning and instructing a summer long CIT canoe training program in order for each member to receive their Paddle Canada’s Certification by summer’s end.
  • Responsible for: ensuring all safety standards are being followed on Camp Glenburn’s waterfront, supervising guards on duty, working with the Waterfront director creating duty and guarding schedules to ensure a fun, safe atmosphere is maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing Canoe and Kayak instruction for Interest Groups. Responsible for the care, safety, storage and inventory of all canoe and kayak equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of camp-wide emergency procedure specific to the area of responsibility.
  • Responsible to participate in the planning implementation of a staff-training program for all counseling staff.
  • As a member of the Camp Glenburn Staff Team, the Canoe & Kayak Director will be a positive role model for fellow staff, C.I.T’s and campers in every aspect of camp life, being conscious of health, dress, speech, etiquette and relations with others.
  • To assist in other Camp operations as requested by the Camp Director.
  • To submit a final report to the Camp Director prior to the completion of the tenure.
  • Understands and complies with Child Protection Practices.
  • To strive to ensure that every child who attends Camp Glenburn is treated with respect, understanding and compassion.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ongoing or completed Bachelor’s Degree, Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a Camp or Youth Program setting.
  • Paddle Canada Certification
  • Camp Certifications considered an asset: NLS, Waterfront, Pleasure Craft Operator.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.
  • Strong communication, customer service skills, a team player.
  • Social Development Clearance Check.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
