The City of Cornwall is seeking a By-law Enforcement Officer. Reporting to the By-Law Enforcement Supervisor, The By-Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for assisting in the enforcement of Municipal By-Laws serving to preserve a quality of life to which every citizen of Cornwall is entitled. Included are By-Laws regulating noise, business license, dogs, litter, parking and traffic By-Law as well as any other By-Law which may be enacted by Council.
The work involves providing information and assistance to the public and carrying out various field assignments associated with By-Law compliance. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to problem solve, investigate complaints and enforce applicable By-Laws and regulations with tact, sound judgment and exceptional communication/conflict resolution expertise.
To be considered for the role, our candidates must possess a Community College diploma in Municipal Law Enforcement or a Policing Program; Must have Ontario Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Certification or be eligible to obtain it; One to two years experience in a Municipal By-Law Enforcement position is preferred; Experience required in court litigation proceeding and the preparation and giving of evidence including disclosure requests for evidence for court purposes; Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, familiarity with using automated parking ticket devices as well as a municipal software would be considered an asset; Class G Driver’s License; Excellent communication and customer service skills. Bilingualism (English and French) will be considered an asset.
The starting wage is $32.54 per hour, 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
