A Business Systems Analyst is responsible for driving the functional design and delivery of technology-based business solutions. They own the definition of business requirements and the functional design of major components of a software application. They have some management-level responsibility for the solution and are often responsible for supervising the day-to-day efforts of a small team of less experienced business systems analysts working on smaller components of the overall application development. A Business Systems Analyst must be able to define and communicate project standards and guidelines around the application design, as well as understand generally accepted System Development Life Cycle methodology. This individual will often lead meetings with business owners to define application requirements, will help define and structure new system processes, and must have knowledge around system building concepts, technical architecture, program/project management, and application quality assurance

As a Business System Analyst specific responsibilities may include:

  • Ownership for gathering, refining and prioritizing requirements from product manager and/or business owners through meetings, questionnaires or interviews

  • Assess current business systems and define work items to identify and implement functional requirements

  • Translate business requirements into systemic requirements and detailed functional designs

  • Assist project management with definition of scope and management of application architectural designs

  • Maintain deep familiarity with systems development lifecycle

  • Work with development and test teams to ensure completeness and feasibility of functional specifications

  • Ensure business owners understand design approach and system functionality to attain business sign-off

  • Assist project management with articulation of work level, estimating order of magnitude, and identifying resource requirements

  • Work with project team members to troubleshoot and resolve system issues in a timely manner

  • Organize and lead change management and issue resolution meetings with product management, test, and development teams

  • Undergraduate Degree or Technical Certificate.

  • Graduate Degree preferred.

  • 7+ years relevant experience.

  • Experience in Financial Services domain

  • Expert knowledge of System Analysis related to specific technologies, tools, processes, procedures and broader business issues and relevant technologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of the business and associated standards and technology from a design or solution perspective.

  • Knowledge of Agile and associated tools

  • Development background, since the BSAs must work very closely with Architects, Developers and QA team

  • Interest and proven ability to work autonomously on complex, highly-visible projects and initiatives.

  • Readiness to act as a lead expert resource in architectural information exchange for project teams, the business and outside vendors.
