About the Role

Business Solutions Architect

Full-time

Remote work location in the following areas:

• Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga, or Brampton, ON
• Fredericton, Moncton, or Hartland, NB

The Business Solutions Architect (BSA) will be responsible for evaluating Day & Ross’ business needs and determine how IT can support those needs by leveraging existing software, hardware or infrastructure. The BSA will also help in determining, developing, and improving solutions in support of business requirements that aligns with overall IT strategy and enterprise architecture.

It is also expected that the incumbent bridges communication between IT, solution experts, and business operations (incl. leaders, managers, users, etc.) to ensure everyone is aligned with the proposed solution and it meets their expectations. The process will require the BSA to provide regular feedback, make adjustments, and resolve problems in order to properly design and implement solutions.

How you’ll help

• Define the principles to guide solution decisions for the enterprise.
• Design and direct the governance activities associated with ensuring Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA) compliance.
• Ensure solution to business processes/problems meets the technical and business requirements, aligns with overall business strategy and complies with Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA).
• Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures or culture) and financial impact on the ESA.
• Ensure that functional & non-functional stakeholders’ requirements are captured and they are regularly informed about product selection/development processes, costs, and budgeting.
• Convert a set of requirements into a blueprint that has details on design and architecture of the technical solution. Ensure the resulting technical solution complies with best practices around information storage and security.
• Collaborate with Business Solution Services (BSS) and Vendor Management Office (VMO) towards development of solution roadmap for the enterprise.
• Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise solutions and recommend improvements.
• Recommend/facilitate/collaborate technology/solution selection process that aligns with ESA.
• Consult with application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate project needs.
• Identify solution constraints and analyze alternatives, mitigate risks and conduct re-evaluation as necessary with respect to process/solution.
• Work closely with the enterprise program management office (EPMO) or project office to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.
• Other related duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.
• 7 – 10 years’ of experience in at least two IT disciplines in a client/server or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment, including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations.
• Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
• Experience in solution life-Cycle management that includes transitioning from old to new systems and ensuring old systems are decommissioned by leveraging existing tools/applications/systems.
• Good understanding of transportation or supply chain domain will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of all components of an enterprise technical architecture.
• Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
• Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
• Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems.
• Understanding of the enterprise’s political climate and how to navigate the political waters.
• Ability to understand long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
• Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements.
• Ability to estimate the financial impact of solution architecture alternatives.
• Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
• Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
