Work Arrangements

The Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration requires a BBA Accounting Degree Program Coordinator. This position takes effect September 1, 2021 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years. This role has 2 sections of time release available for the 2021-2022 academic year. The applicant must be able to teach in the BBA (Accounting) Degree and PBD programs.

The Role

The faculty member in this position is responsible to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration for the overall operational functioning of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting).

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The BBA Accounting Degree Program Coordinator will be primarily responsible for the following duties:

Reporting Relationship

1.1 Reports to the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration through the Director, Business Programs.

1.2 Participates at Program Advisory Committee meetings and follows through with recommendations of Committee.

Planning in Consultation with the Dean’s Office

2.1 Supports the Department Chair with the timetabling of programs and service courses.

2.2 Planning and information sessions and college-wide career/ counselling days at the College.

2.3 Assists in preparing departmental work plan relating to specific programs and overall department budget.

2.4 Develops long range plans for program development consistent with Douglas College policies, plans and strategies in consultation with the Director, Business Programs.

2.5 Ensures that curriculum plans are consistent with CPA curriculum requirements and the College’s academic and technical standards.

2.6 Ensures that calendar copy, web site, program brochures and all advertising material are kept accurate and up to date.

2.7 Coordinates the development and implementation of program operational procedures.

2.8 Contributes to the department tactical plan in conjunction with the Department Chair and colleagues.

Communications

3.1 Is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with appropriate professional organizations, identifiable community interest groups, and the public as they relate to the specific programs under the jurisdiction of the coordinator.

3.2 Recruits members individually or on recommendation of faculty for Dean’s approval for the Program Advisory Committee; plans and organizes annual or semi-annual Program Advisory Committee meetings.

3.3 Uses excellent communication and conflict resolution skills when interacting with faculty, staff and students.

3.4 Ensures that any changes in preferential admission procedures and criteria are communicated to relevant areas.

Curriculum Coordination

4.1 Collaborates with colleagues, relevant agencies, and stakeholders on curriculum development/revision to meet the changing needs of the programs.

4.2 Ensures programs and curriculum within programs conform to institutional policies/procedures/regulations.

4.3 Coordinates course/program evaluation processes such as program reviews.

Coordination/Administration

5.1 Supports the Department Chair to ensure adequate instructional resources and resources are available.

5.2 Interprets College/Faculty policies to the team(s) and ensures implementation of same.

5.2 Ensures effective communication and liaison with the Dean and other College administrators, including submission of required reports on a timely basis.

Students

6.1 Coordinates and develops student recruitment initiatives and monitors results.

6.2 Provides assistance to students in planning timetables, registering for courses, organizing programs.

6.3 Follow up on accepted and non-accepted applications as required.

6.4 Assists successful applicants with program planning including a study plan for graduation purposes.

6.5 Solicits feedback on programs from graduating students and initiates program revisions.

6.6 Consults with BUSN 4500 instructors to ensure students complete 500 hours of work experience.

Staff

7.1 Liaises with support staff team in establishing schedules and priorities to ensure that administrative and faculty work is processed in an orderly manner.

Teaching

8.1 Teaches a sufficient number of courses to maintain their established workload.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

General requirements

The successful candidate will be a regular faculty member (full or part-time), supportive of cooperative education, have a good working knowledge of computer applications and educational technologies, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; and, the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Specific Qualifications

In addition to the general requirements, the successful candidate will possess:
  • A CPA professional accounting designation in good standing
  • Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Teaching and curriculum development experience in an accounting program at the post-secondary level
  • Relevant work experience in a business environment (minimum five years)
  • Administrative/leadership experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment
