Ass’t Manager - Retail Greenhouse

The primary focus for this position is the management of the Retail Greenhouse operation using due dilligence with consideration of company policies, practices and the ability to change gears quickly and diligently during the crazy months (February through end of June) and through the end of the year.

The successful candidate is able to think quickly on their feet and adapt to ever changing demands. You will be able to not only plan, delegate and direct staff but you will be an active member of the team - anything they can do you can do better!

This is a very active position requiring the incumbent to stand, lift and bend for up to 8 hours a day. Lifting requires the ability to load plants (alone or in trays) from trucks to the display tables as well as move around items for an effective display of all types of products (10-30 pounds).

Duties and Responsibilities

Each day you will be required to:

• Plan and delegate the work tasks utilizing the strengths and skills of your team of up to 9 Sales Associates.
• Use independent judgement to prioritize tasks in order of importance while dealing with interruptions and/or changes in plans.
• Train new employees and provide on-goping performance feedback to all sales associates.
• Assist customers with answering their questions regarding plant selection, planting and caring for their purchases.
• Receiving, pricing and stocking new and seasonal products ensuring accurate pricing and sufficient levels are available. Advising the Retail Manager on re-ordering when needed.
• Assist with the organization and/or teaching of workshops to both adults and children.
• Maintaining the cleanliness of the greenhouse to ensure a safe environment for employees and customers.
• Willing and able to provide assistance to other areas of the garden centre as needed. It’s a team effort!

Qualifications:

The following are must haves for this position:

• A minimum of 3 years supervisory/management experience with a team of up to 9 members
• A minimum of 3 years of recent working knowledge in a medium to large garden centre comprising of perennials, annuals, vegetables and tropical houseplants.
• Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
