A New Beginning Starts With You

Community Living Alternative Services (CLAS) is currently seeking an individual to fill the full time position of Art Therapist in the Day Support Program.

Position Summary: This direct support position is responsible for the development and delivery of art therapy projects to groups and/or individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with front line support workers in communicating the process of art therapy congruent with the Program goals and the Agency’s philosophy, mission statement, and objectives
  • Listening to the individual and their supports to determine suitability of activities and develop strategies to assist the individual to engage to the fullest extent possible
  • Provide effective and flexible casework, through a range of techniques to engage individuals in planned art activities, across multiple departments
  • Provide input into the development and review of individualized art therapy goals
  • Provide a schedule of upcoming Art projects working with the program to plan for attendance
  • Complete, submit and monitor required program documentation within established Agency guidelines and time frames
  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures, report hazards
  • WCB duty/responsibility and reporting

You will bring:

Formal Education: Four-year degree in Art Therapy is required. Ability to present professionally, communicate effectively, and demonstrate time management and organizational skills. Ability to work flexibly in a variety of situations with multiple individuals with varying needs. Own transportation is required.

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Art Therapist is preferred

Hours:This temporary contract is ongoing with yearly renewals. The standard workweek for this contract will be 40 hours per week, with a minimum of 32 hours per week spent as class time or direct service time with Individuals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • A positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right and responsibility to define and pursue their life choices, and have active involvement in their community
  • Ensure individual confidentiality is respected and maintained
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment as well as being able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective time-management skills

Other:

  • Must have a reliable car with personal liability insurance with a minimum coverage of two million ($2,000,000.00)
  • Successful candidate will need to provide a current Police Security Clearance

Training:

As a condition of employment it is mandatory that you maintain at your own time and expense the following safety and/or job specific training:

  • Emergency First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Occupational Health & Safety;
  • A CPI/High Risk Integrative Strategies Workshop;
  • APRP Abuse Prevention and Protocol Training; and
  • Understanding and Promoting Rights Training.
