Brief Description


One Permanent, Full-Time Position.
Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our IS Infrastructure and Architecture team.
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure & Architecture , the Architecture Specialist is responsible for providing input into Capital Power’s Information Services architecture and assisting in the development of the long-term strategy in alignment with the organization’s goals. This position plans for future systems growth and identifies areas for improvement.
Key accountabilities include:


Detailed Description


· Provide highly responsive and customer-focused architecture support for all other areas of Information Services.
· Take a leadership role and manage Information Services Architecture initiatives, proof of concepts, product review and selection.
· Create and develop Information Services architecture standards and policies and ensure those standards and architectures are appropriately followed across Information Services.
· Active involvement in the creation and maintenance of the long-term Information Services Strategy in alignment with corporate business objectives.
· Plan Information Services project scope and design for annual project cycle.
· Maintain and enhance the Hybrid Cloud strategy focusing on multi-cloud initiatives that support or business needs.
· Analyze IaaS, PaaS and SaaS offerings to ensure the best fit for Capital Power infrastructure going forward.
· Responsible for hardware, infrastructure software procurement and contract negotiations to ensure best terms for the company.
· Take a leadership role in managing Information Services architecture projects and initiatives.
· Provide expert technical advice to stakeholders, senior manager and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position.
· Close alignment with our business is critical to the success of this role.
· Provide input into people decisions for contractor assistance with the Architecture team.
· Assess solutions and architecture (technical and process) based on the financial impact to Capital Power and recommend cost effective solutions that meet business needs.
· Negotiate and execute hardware, software and service contracts to ensure the most cost effective and best fit solution for Capital Power.
· Provide proactive leadership with a focus on finding opportunities and making recommendations to enhance the value of Information Services solutions, that aligns with the Information Services Strategy.
· Responsible for the execution of the Information Services Strategic plan.
· Serve as an internal technical expert on Capital Power’s architecture.
· With the highly diverse set of technologies at Capital Power, provide an overarching solution instead of problem resolution, focusing on the whole picture and the long-term requirements.
· Ensure solutions and decisions are made taking a minimum 3-5-year outlook.
· Provide larger Information Services systems solutions that cross multiple areas.
· Review, evaluate and recommend new solutions and technologies to determine best fit and business case to meet Capital Power’s needs.
· Act as a role model in demonstrating Health, Safety & Environment orientation in the team; adhere to the procedures/rules and standards.
· Ensure correct execution of business procedures are executed with minimal checks and balance.
· Ensure all procurement and contracts adhere to corporate policy.
· Collaborate with other people leaders within Information Services or business groups to increase collaboration and enhance the offering provided by the Architecture team.
· Provide proven relationship management, influencing, and negotiation skills both internally to Capital Power and with external counterparties.
· Provide strong team development, group problem-solving, and group conflict management skills.
· Create a culture of innovation and execution.
· Show excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Demonstrates strong leadership and facilitation skills in advising and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
· Collaborate with external contacts: industry peers to gain an understanding of industry standards and best practices across all areas of Information Services Architecture.
· Collaborate and build relationships with external vendors to convey Capital Power’s requirements across various infrastructure requirements.

· Act as a key contact for core infrastructure vendors – both regional and North American contacts.



Job Requirements


Education:
· University degree and relevant experience or a Computer/Network Systems Technology diploma and related experience.
Experience:
· 10+ years of experience in Information Technology.
· 5+ years’ experience with developing, managing and maintaining enterprise level Information Services architectures and strategies.
· 10+ years’ experience in operational roles in Information Technology prior to moving into Architecture roles.
· 5+ years’ experience leading teams, project initiatives, and strategic implementations across all levels of Information Systems.
· Minimum of 3 years in a solution architecture role using service and hosting solutions such as private/public cloud IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms.
Technical Skills:
· Functional and technical knowledge of networking, security, database, storage, server and application areas of Information Technology.
· Ability to provide knowledge and leadership across various Information Technology subject matter areas.
· Proven ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and prepare appropriate reports.
· Understanding of Information Technology governance and contract/license management.
· Experience with multi-cloud vendors and familiar with their offerings and how they apply to hybrid-cloud options.
· Solid understanding of Cloud options and how they interact with on-prem solutions (ex: ADFS, o365 offerings, etc.) .
· Strong skills in designing detailed system architecture design and ability to explain complex technical issues.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with other teams to ensure buy-in for new architectures and ability to assist through operations.
