About Our Operation

Agnico Eagle is always looking for new talented team members to join our Nunavut mining operations. Meliadine is located just northwest of Rankin Inlet, a small coastal town on the shores of Hudson Bay. Commercial production began at Meliadine in mid-May 2019 and the mine officially opened at the end of June. This mine is our largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources and we expect to operate it for at least 14 years. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, as well as a complete camp complex.

Your Next Challenge

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Energy & Infrastructure Supervisor, the Apprentice Carpenter is part of the Energy & Infrastructure Department and collaborates with other departments of the mine

• Display determination and put forth a respectful amount of study in order to succeed at the pre-entrance exam;
• Complete the Apprenticeship Application Form;
• Complete eight (8) compensated weeks of technical training in school that may be outside Nunavut for each of the four (4) apprenticeship levels;
• Return to Meliadine to complete 1,800 hours on field for each of the four (4) apprenticeship levels.
  

What You Will Have An Opputunity To Learn

• Facility construction and remodeling projects.
• Familiarity working with lumber and light gauge steel.
• Ability to install and repair trim, cabinets, roofing and windows & doors;
• Read & interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches;
• How to complete pre-job hazard assessments for all jobs that are not done on a regular basis and during upset conditions;
• Complete work assignments as directed through assignment of work orders;
• To turn in work orders with relevant information that will help improve planning, and have details to help the next time the job is done.
  

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

• 900 hours of work experience in the trade;
• The employee must be open to temporary relocation for training;
• Must have a good record of attendance at work;
• Reference letter from current supervisor is an asset;
• Successful completion of the pre-entrance exam;
• Experience working in a multicultural environment;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
• Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written);
• Willingness to assis a Journeyperson Carpenter.
• Position is reserved for Inuit candidates.
