Within the Office of Research Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ORSIE), reporting to the Manager Grants and Special Projects, this position is responsible for facilitating the sharing of activities and initiatives undertaken and supported by the Social Impact Hub, one of ORSIE’s five applied research centres.

Key duties include creation of social media content, presentations, and publications to advance the work of the Social Impact Hub with community partner organizations, faculty, students as well as to the general public, the creation of knowledge products and tools, and the development of processes and tools for knowledge mobilization.

Duties
  • Organizing day-to-day initiatives and events that celebrate successes and opportunities relating to activities of the Social Impact Hub, including booking platforms, venues and/or equipment, creating content, designing/printing materials, and providing photography and videography support.
  • Supporting public engagement and knowledge mobilization strategies in research and community initiatives by providing guidance, input, and expertise.
  • Identifying opportunities and developing mechanisms for community engagement and knowledge mobilization in Hub initiatives and research projects with various stakeholders.
  • Compiling and maintaining inventories of integrated knowledge translation and community engagement best practices, literature, tools, resources and capacity building materials.
  • Evaluating knowledge translation activities on an ongoing basis, and revising and refining efforts to ensure maximum effectiveness and impact.
  • Developing written and visual content including infographics, research summaries, success stories and research highlights to enhance knowledge mobilization of Hub activities and outcomes.
  • Creating presentations for webinars, information sessions, partner meetings, events and conferences etc.
  • Transforming documents and data into suitable communications for advocacy and external representation.
  • Creating content and editing digital communications, including webpage updates with interactive media, the Annual Report and the monthly ORSIE e-Bulletin.
  • Advising on social media trends and platforms and creating engaging social media campaigns using tools such as geo-targeting and language specifications to increase post performance and reach to grow awareness of the Durham College Social Impact Hub.
  • Coordinating communication between internal and external members, including emails, phone calls, and sharing project success updates and announcements.
  • Collaborating with the Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment Department to leverage resources and maximize impact.
  • Assisting project leads with formatting/design of documents, presentations, and reports.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess an advanced diploma in Public Relations, Media Communications, or related field with at least two years related experience. Must be familiar with knowledge mobilization strategies and metrics on reach, relevance and relationship. A keen interest and awareness of social innovation practices, applied research, community engagement and social justice is desired.

Required skills include interpersonal, organizational, planning, time management and prioritization skills; demonstrated strong professional acumen with excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective communication skills to collaborate with variety of stakeholders and external partners (academic, government, non-profit, for-profit etc.); creates visually appealing content (photos, videos, graphic design).

Ability to be proactive and take initiative when needed to identify and resolve issues; deadline driven, reliable team member who maintains appropriate service standards as deemed necessary for a representative of the college and the Social Impact Hub.

Graphic design and photography/video production and editing are strong assets. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) is an asset. Examples of past written/visual content may be requested.

Required Skills

Hourly rate: $24.00

Required Experience

Regular Part-time.

Hours: 24 hours per week (Monday to Friday); Shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m..
