Environmental Technician/Junior Biologist

POSITION SUMMARY

Position tasks include: environmental monitoring, fish & wildlife surveys/ salvages, vegetation assessments, erosion and sediment control inspections, water quality monitoring, environmental development permitting and emergency response for a variety of construction and natural resource development projects.

POSITION TERM

Full-time (30 – 40 hours per week) commencing immediately or at an agreed upon date

POSITION LOCATION

Office location in North Vancouver, BC with projects primarily in Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Sea-to-Sky Corridor, with additional opportunities throughout the South Coast region.

North Vancouver office will be the primary place of work. Reliable transportation to the Roe office is required to access equipment and fleet vehicles

PREFERRED CAPABILTIES

· Ability to work independently and as part of a group in both remote and urban settings.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and be flexible with scheduling.

· Field work experience in aquatic biology (e.g., fish and amphibian surveys/salvages and habitat assessment), terrestrial wildlife and birds (e.g., breeding bird nest surveys, raptor surveys, wildlife and species at risk surveys) and vegetation assessment.

· Strong interpersonal skills for client and contractor communications.

· Technically proficient in desktop research methods, word processing and mapping. Strong technical report writing would be an asset.

· AutoCAD/GIS experience.

· Eligibility for professional designation (B.I.T., R.B. Tech., R.P. Bio)

REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to work remotely approximately 7 days per month and be available frequently for after-hours and weekend call-out for environmental response. Please indicate interest in longer stretches of remote or camp work in your application email.

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract. Transportation to the office is required to access equipment and fleet vehicles.

PREFERENCES GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH

· Suitable academic background and/or experience with applied science biology work or other related field work.

· Electrofishing certification and/or erosion and sediment control courses.

· Level 1 First Aid

COMPENSATION

Competitive wage based on experience and education and courses ($26-$32/hour. Overtime available).
