Junior Tax Analyst

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Taxation, the Junior Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting day-to-day
income tax compliance, as well as providing analytical data and reports. The Junior Tax Analyst is also
responsible for supporting team members in analyzing tax-related issues, ensuring compliance
with tax laws and regulations, and providing strategic advice on tax planning. This role involves
researching Canadian and US tax laws, analyzing financial data and preparing tax returns. The
Tax Analyst works closely with members of the Tax team to meet tax deadlines, respond to
requests from other departments, and analyze and respond to requests from government entities
in order to minimize tax liabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the month-end closing process by reconciling tax accounts and preparing
    monthly entries;
  • Contribute to government audits (where applicable) and prepare answers to government
    requests;
  • Update the tax calendar for the department and ensure regular monitoring of new cases;
  • Prepare tax payment applications and initiate online returns;
  • Respond to notices of assessment and requests for information from tax authorities, and
    participate in tax audits;
  • Work on special tax projects and other tax aspects according to business needs;
  • Use critical thinking to study and anticipate potential tax and reporting requirements in
    order to maximize the benefits for the company as a whole;
  • Compile data and prepare calculations related to the preparation of the Company’s
    income tax return, including, but not limited to, calculating the reconciliation between the
    accounting books and the tax return;
  • Research tax laws, regulations and rulings to ensure compliance;
  • Analyze financial data to identify tax implications and opportunities for tax optimization;
  • Contribute to tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize tax
    benefits;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Finance, Accounting, and Legal
    departments;
  • Maintain accurate tax records and documents in accordance with internal policies and
    regulatory requirements;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of tax policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
  • 2 years of experience in an accounting or finance role;
  • CPA designation and/or experience in the retail industry is an asset;
  • Solid accounting skills and an interest in taxation;
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and experience with ERP systems is an asset;
  • Bilingual (French and English) written and spoken;
  • Understanding of IFRS standards relating to taxation is an asset;
  • Thorough understanding of corporate finance concepts;
  • Enjoy working in a team and achieving results by collaborating with others to find
    solutions to problems and make firm decisions;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Self-motivated, deadline-driven and excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently, work with others, and contribute as part of a team;
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with large volumes of data;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment;
