Position Summary

The Livestock Competition Committee is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to join our committee as a Social Media Lead. The Social Media Lead is responsible for implementing and managing the social media strategy to support 4H On Parade, International Auctioneers, Youth Livestock, World Stock Dogs Competition subcommittees, and their programming activities.

The Livestock Competition committee is committed to creating inspiring western experiences that connect urban and rural audiences through the presentation of educational and entertaining competitions and demonstrations of authentic western activities. Programming will highlight leading animal care practices, safety and continued connection and collaboration on the issues of food security and public trust.

Role

The successful candidate will implement and manage the Livestock Competition Committee social media strategy according to Calgary Stampede Marketing Communications and Ag Media Committee guidelines. They will align the program with the goals and objectives identified in the committee work plan as well as establish and maintain lines of communication between the subcommittees and the Livestock Competition Committee leadership team, plus Calgary Stampede stakeholders. This role will also guide the subcommittees through the established process to identify and create content.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the individual roles include:

  • Create social media posts that employ compelling visuals and content to engage our target audiences utilizing the approved social media platforms.
  • Participate in live events to provide real-time social media coverage and liaise with Calgary Stampede Ag Media to support engagement and growth of the community.
  • Manage social editorial calendar and lead publishing of all social media content.
  • Establish a calendar of events, create graphic design social media tiles for daily/weekly posts to social media.
  • Schedule and coordinate updates to social media teams and channels.
  • Research new processes and technology in order to develop our understanding of how to utilize targeted demographics best as a means to improve our efficiency in social media and meet industry best practices.
  • Ensure all communications on social media align with Calgary Stampede brand requirements.

Time Commitment

  • 2-3 hours per month September - December
  • 5-10 hours per month January - April
  • 10- 20 hours per month May - July

Qualifications

  • Social media experience combined with a strong understanding of SEO.
  • Knowledge of social media programming.
  • Strong communication skills (written/verbal/visual) that are professional, clear, and creative to generate a connection and engagement with our target audience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enjoy dealing with different people of all ages, both in-person and digitally
