MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. (MHICA), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, is a Tier 1 manufacturer of major aircraft structures and assemblies, based in Mississauga, Ontario. Over the past decade, MHICA has built more than aircraft components, it has built a recognized worldwide reputation for capacity, precision, on-time delivery and excellence. MHICA has two state-of-the-art facilities combined to 476,000 sq. ft. This comprises of Manufacturing & Assembly, Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain, where more than 400 highly-skilled employees are working on Bombardier’s sector-leading Global 5000/6000 and Challenger 350 business aircraft. MHICA’s technicians build and join wing assemblies and fuselage sections, as well as perform systems and flight control assembly installations and testing.


Scope of Position



Reporting to the Manager – Product Definition, the Lead – Design is responsible for leading all design activities from start to finish (from request to release). Includes design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement.


  • Coordinate communication between Customers, vendors and Head office (MHI).
  • Production support with drawing interpretation, investigations, design analysis.
  • Coordinate, monitor and track design packages through entire change process
  • Review and approve design change documents and drawing.
  • Provide mechanical and structural design, development and changes in the aerospace industry.
  • Perform in team environment with engineers belonging to other disciplines.
  • Resolve problems and improve manufacturability and serviceability of products working with manufacturing and service personnel.
  • Develop and recommend changes if any for manufacturing processes.
  • Reduce product cost and improve design performance working with other groups on value engineering initiatives.
  • Assist moderately complex to complex engineering assignments.
  • Prepare engineering drawings.
  • Upgrade product and reduce service failures and reduce cost.
  • Provide technical guidance to management if required.
  • Support, investigate, develop and implement new process technologies of major scope.
  • Develops and maintains relations with individuals and business units within or outside his/her organization.

Skills and Qualifications


  • Extensive knowledge of CATIA (V4/V5) 3D CAD software.
  • Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes.
  • Thorough understanding on Engineering configuration management.
  • Proven ability to complete engineering estimations on work packages.
  • Ability to produce Conceptual layouts.
  • Understanding of current cutting tool technology.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.

Experience


  • 10+ years experience (Bombardier programs preferred)
  • Relevant Project management experience (PMP an asset)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
