Reporting to a Section Head, the Senior Licenced Authorizations Specialist provides specialist services in evaluating Aquaculture applications, ensuring that legislative requirements are met, and First Nation information sharing, engagement and consultation is complete. This position supervises professional and technical staff. This position is responsible for making natural resource authorizations decisions and recommendations on complex applications or against complex legislation and regulations.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • Professional Designation: Registered, or immediately eligible* for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area. (i.e., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia)).
      • Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction referred to above, and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
  • Degree in a natural resource field or related field.
  • Comprehensive experience (field/office) working in resource management.
  • Experience with First Nation consultation and information sharing.
  • Experience in negotiating and consulting with stakeholders in natural resource management.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a Criminal records check, and/or Criminal records Review Act (CCRA) check and/or enhanced screening checks as required by the Ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

Preference may be given for two or more years of experience, in the past 5 years, in one or more of the following:

  • Directly supervising and leading teams.
  • Submitting, reviewing or processing Aquaculture lands authorizations including new and replacement Lands Act authorizations.
  • Working experience with interpretation of natural resource legislation including the Lands Act.

Proviso’s

  • Valid B.C. driver’s license
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air (fixed and rotary wing) or foot,
  • Overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
