Reporting to a Section Head or an excluded manager, the Senior Authorizations Specialist is accountable for making natural resource authorizations decisions and recommendations on complex applications or against complex legislation and regulations in the context of Crown land dispositions. This position may supervise professional and technical staff.

Job Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Master’s degree in a natural resource management field (e.g. resource management, forestry, geography, or environmental science) and 2 years of recent and related experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a resource management field and 3 years of recent and related experience AND
  • Be registered, or eligible for registration, with a British Columbia professional association. (e.g., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia)
  • Note: Eligibility to register within 6 months applies only to those applicants who currently have their designation and are a member of the required association in there home province or territory.
  • Experience in negotiating and consulting with stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Recent and related experience (field/office) working in resource use or land use/land management.
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a Criminal records check, and/or Criminal records Review Act (CCRA) check and/or enhanced screening checks as required by the Ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
PREFERENCES
  • Experience with Crown land use and/or dispositions, Crown water use and/or dispositions, and/or Crown timber tenure administration, or experience in legal surveys or land use/land management.
  • Experience working with First Nations or experience of First Nations engagement or consultation
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching or mentoring staff.
  • Experience preparing briefing notes, presentations, and reports.
  • Experience in negotiating and consulting with stakeholders in natural resource management.

Professional Designation: YES -Please include your registration number in your application. You must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP); OR, a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA); OR, a Professional Engineer/Geoscientist with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to obtain registration in BC from a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction.

Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the appropriate BC association ( ABCFP , BCIA , EGBC ). Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
