Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, the role is primarily responsible for the ongoing, regular maintenance of the group’s consolidation processes and systems. The position also prepares a broad range of financial reports all in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) in a dynamic environment as well as transitioning to reporting under US GAAP. Partnering with the rest of the Financial Reporting team, the Specialist, Financial Reporting, will provide information and reports used to drive business decisions, determine priorities and support the executive leadership team in achieving the company’s strategic goals.

What You Will Be Doing

You will be an integral part of a financial reporting team providing a range of information and reports used to drive business decisions, determine priorities and satisfy reporting requirements for Oppy’s board and publicly traded parent company. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting the role is primarily responsible for the ongoing, regular maintenance of the group’s consolidation processes and systems. The position also prepares a broad range of financial reports all in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) in a dynamic environment as well as transitioning to reporting under US GAAP.

You will:

  • Be responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of ASPE and IFRS compliant consolidated financial information as required by the company and one of its significant shareholders Dole PLC, a US public company.
  • Work with the accounting and finance team to establish and maintain consolidation tools, accounting systems, processes, policies, procedures and related internal controls necessary to prepare the company financial reporting (including budgeting and forecasting) in compliance with IFRS, ASPE and US GAAP accounting standards, tax requirements, and management reporting requirements.
  • As requested, prepare ASPE, IFRS and US GAAP compliant accounting analysis memos for topics including business acquisition accounting in accordance with ASPE, IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Prepare consolidated monthly financial statements in accordance with ASPE, IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Prepare consolidated quarterly forecasts and annual business plan financial statements in accordance with ASPE, IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Assist in reconciling consolidated financial results to those presented to the Executive team based on management accounting.
  • Collaborate with the team on appropriate tax, profit share and transfer pricing entries required for consolidation.
  • Prepare management reports and analysis based on company’s quarterly forecasts and budgets.
  • Assist with the implementation of a consolidation tool.

Who You Are

  • You possess a strong financial background with proven success in consolidation and related system implementation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience in consolidated reporting to either IFRS, ASPE and/or US GAAP standards and a keen interest in consolidation and financial reporting system maintenance and development.
  • Experience in bottom line accountability combined with a good blend of overall business savvy; able to effectively communicate recommendations and decisions to management.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, handling multiple tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply intellectual rigor and critical thinking to technical financial reporting issues, to consider and document different financial reporting alternatives, to challenge different positions constructively and make well-supported recommendations.
  • Confidence and ability to work effectively with management and interact professionally with colleagues.
  • Detail oriented and organized with the ability to effectively function under time pressures.
  • Ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions and effectively communicate information, both orally and written, to appropriate parties.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with at least 5 years of relevant work experience obtained in a corporate environment.
  • Consolidated financial reporting and management reporting experience an asset.
  • Experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and ideally with International Financial Reporting Standards and US GAAP.
