Software Developer
Division: Corporate – Information Technology
Work Status: Full-time
Location: Corus Quay / Remote

About the Role
You will be responsible for supporting the work of the Data Science team in developing and delivering data driven products, tools, and workflows using internal data sources and cloud based technology stacks. Being the glue that interconnects functional components of the team, the Software Developer will facilitate the ingestion of data from third party sources by constructing pipelines and monitoring the state of data backfills and appends. As Machine Learning products begin to mature you will have the opportunity to support the automation of ML workflows to provide solutions at scale for both internal and external facing initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Provide support to the Data Science team in the construction of data pipelines and workflows
• Development of integration layers from data sources to data lake as necessary to support construction of automated data pipelines
• Development of integration layers from data lake as necessary to support external consumers of data
• Facilitate data transformation requirements as part of ETL process for onboarding data sources
• Support integration of third party or external tools as required by Data Scientist – e.g. machine learning services, analytics engines, and other cloud services
• Work with Enterprise Application Development and/or Digital Development teams as appropriate to implement end user applications where required
• Operationalize machine learning models developed by Data Science Team, including code refactoring as needed, and supporting any application/workflow scale out requirements
• Documentation of code solutions
• Maintain code repositories according to internal standards and direction
• Participation in Data Governance, ethics and policy initiative

About You

Basic Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or other related field or equivalent work experience (5+ years)
• Expertise in Python, including Object Oriented approaches
• Experience using Python to consume APIs
• Experience with GIT
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or Amazon Web Services cloud platforms
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Understanding of the engineering/software development lifecycle
• Great communication skills with the equal ability to work with technologists as well as translating to non-technical business stakeholders with ease
• Proven capacity to deliver excellent results to stakeholders/clients
• Commitment to continuous education in a fast evolving industry

Preferred Qualifications:

• Self-directed, accountable, proactive, organized, efficient, tenacious (persistent about bringing open items/projects to closure), engaged, enthusiastic, able to lead, motivate and drive results
• Ability to manage multiple projects successfully
• Two or more years professional experience at a media company is desirable
• Exposure to data science/data analytics is desirable
• Exposure to python data processing libraries like Pandas is a plus
• Web Design experience with knowledge of the Model View Controller design pattern
• Experience using different frameworks for web development such as Django, Angular, React, etc.
• Proven interest in experimenting to build Data Science applications
• Experience developing visualizations using D3 or another visualization library
• Client service focus
• Great communication skills, written, verbal, presentation and the ability to influence others
• Solutions oriented approach to problem solving
• Teamwork focus and ability to operate in a matrix style organization
• Proven capacity to deliver excellent results to stakeholders/clients
