ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join the teamin Medicine Hat on a full-time basis. This is a temporary position with an anticipated duration through July 31, 2023.

The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the plant reliability framework and culture. This includes identifying reliability risks that could impact the plant or business operations and delivering reliability strategies, analysis, and solutions to measure and improve plant performance. The Site Reliability Engineer supports and collaborates with all departments to provide reliability expertise in the areas of loss prevention, risk management, and life cycle asset management, and is the champion for the site in becoming ‘Reliability Driven.’ The role also has a contribution requirement at a global level and impact through the Global Reliability team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing asset performance to identify issues such as high cost of maintenance; confirming appropriate management strategies are in place for all equipment, and effectively using predictive and other methods of investigation to ensure processes are in place to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Utilizing the Management of Change (MOC) procedure to provide, manage and execute engineering solutions to equipment failures and other issues that impact plant reliability
  • Analyzing plant reliability data, including both equipment and production data
  • Applying robust reliability analysis using data analysis tools (e.g. statistical modeling, reliability modeling and prediction, fault tree analysis, and Weibull analysis) and root cause analysis
  • Maintaining and distributing the site vulnerability list to ensure vulnerabilities are identified and prioritized and that mitigation plans are processed
  • Contributing to specific risk assessments, including both equipment and system risks
  • Approving design reviews for acceptable Reliability Analysis
  • Utilizing historical plant data and reliability analysis tools, assessing remaining life on critical equipment; applying value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and manufacture/purchase decisions
  • Developing, maintaining, and continuously improving systems to determine and measure the reliability of the plant, equipment, components, and processes
  • Working collaboratively across all site departments to determine asset performance
  • Preparing and presenting reports to the Site Management Team outlining reliability concerns and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Collaborating with the Technical team, as well as Project personnel, to ensure reliability and maintainability of new and/or modified equipment installations are understood and meet requirements over the entire life cycle of the asset
  • Actively participating as a member of the Global Reliability Team and leading the Local Reliability Team by actively acting as the reliability champion on the site to promote and drive reliability culture

In order to qualify for this role, you must have an undergraduate degree with a major in an engineering discipline,and 5 years of related industrial experience, with at least 2 years in a reliability-related role.Other combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered based on significant related experience in a relevant industrial setting.

Other strong assets for this position include:

  • Designation as a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE)
  • Previous experience with incident investigation methodologies, such as Tap Root or other root cause analysis
  • Experience providing direction and leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, as well as achieving results through influence
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs
