THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Shop Manager - Body Shop, you will be responsible for assisting the Body Shop Manager in the day-to-day operations of the body shop. Further responsibilities include writing estimates for both customers and insurance companies; performing administrative functions related to insurance company claim requirements, and making required decisions in the absence of the Body Shop Manager.

Your Responsibilities
- Prepares estimates for all brands of trucks and equipment for both paint and body repairs.
- Performs walk-arounds with customers to verify vehicle condition and point out additional repairs that may be required that may not be covered by the insurance claim. Upselling is an important part of this job description.
- Under the direction of the Body Shop Manager, provides a complete and accurate written cost estimate for labor and parts for manager approval and submission to the insurance company and/or customer (if not an insurance claim). Notifies Body Shop Manager of incoming work and discusses all repair decisions on any unit close to being deemed as a write-off.
- Takes necessary pictures for the insurance company, also taking pictures of all four corners of the unit, including decal locations, pictures of the front bumper, and any damage that may be questioned when the unit is ready to be put back in service.
- Works with Service Advisor to establish "promised time" based on shop work-in-progress schedule and estimated parts availability.
- Works with parts department to cost out estimates, order parts, if necessary, follow up and make sure parts arrive and are correct. Follows up with parts department to ensure pricing is correct and that insurance claim sheets are lined and added up properly. Works with parts department to locate good used parts.
- Ensures all sublets are organized as soon as the repair process is confirmed, and ensures sublet companies are booked appropriately.
- Works with Service Advisor to ensure customers are contacted regarding any changes in the estimate or promised time. Explains cost and time requirements in detail and gets proper authorization before any additional repairs are performed. Records all correspondence on the RO interface, if applicable.
- Maintains knowledge of warranty parameters for Kenworth chassis and the major component suppliers.
- Reviews insurance repair orders to ensure that work is completed, and additional work and authorization is noted. Works with the Service Writer to close insurance RO’s and any other RO that has been estimated by him/her with particular emphasis on "lining" insurance company repair orders.
- Ensures that vehicles are parked in assigned areas. Makes sure they are locked, and all keys are marked and put away correctly.
- Assists Body Shop Manager with explaining completed work and all charges to customers.
- Maintains high customer satisfaction standards.
- Arranges for the Service Shop Lead Hand to test drive vehicles with customers as needed to confirm body shop problems or repair concerns.
- Goes over vehicle to ensure all repairs are completed and the unit is clean and ready for delivery.
- Works with Service Advisor to ensure customer’s portion of the payment (deductibles, betterment, extra work, and taxes) are correct before the customer leaves with the vehicle.
- Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with provincial/state and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, WorkSafe BC, and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
- Becomes familiar with and complies with the company’s Health & Safety Manual. Reports any unsafe practices to a manager.
- Keeps up to date with WHMIS training (Canada) or OSHA HCS training (US).
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field
- Four years of related experience and/or training
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Heavy equipment technical knowledge would be an asset
- Great interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to read and interpret financial reports
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise a high level of judgment and discretion
- Excellent time management with the demonstrated ability to effectively manage leadership responsibilities
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Strong business ethics with a professional approach at all times and
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license
