At PETRONAS Canada, we are committed to building Canada’s energy future – and people are fundamental to our success. We foster a culture of open collaboration and empowerment across our team of skilled professionals, while supporting career development opportunities. To support our growth plans, we are looking for can-do problem solvers to join our team who are innovative and passionate about driving strong safety, operational and sustainability performance in everything we do. Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.
THE ROLE:

PETRONAS Canada is seeking a Senior Reservoir (Petroleum) Engineer to join our dynamic team in Calgary. This role focuses on supporting Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and developing our unconventional assets in Montney (Canada), Vaca Muerta (Argentina), and Shilaif (UAE).

Reporting to the Team Lead of Subsurface Projects, you will work closely with other functional teams in the Canadian and International assets to continuously optimize our well designs and reduce our carbon footprint as we rapidly grow our production. This will include providing subsurface technical support for well spacing/stacking scenarios, D&C design optimization opportunities, parent-child mitigation/remediation, reservoir monitoring and surveillance evaluations, as well as supporting CCS initiatives. Join an innovative, collaborative team working to integrate data and analyses from advanced machine learning, cutting-edge completion diagnostics, in-house developed software applications, and traditional subsurface workflows to make better decisions about how to develop our unconventional assets!
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
  • Collaborate with the Carbon Abatement Team to support CCS initiatives for both proprietary and third-party projects. This includes reservoir screening, characterization and evaluation, building dynamic simulation models, identifying data acquisition opportunities, reservoir appraisal and development planning, MMV (measurement, monitoring, and verification) planning, and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to conduct detailed technical evaluations and create full field development plans for emerging unconventional acquisition opportunities
  • Provide reservoir engineering support in aspects such as Rate Transient Analysis (RTA), surveillance planning and well performance monitoring to optimize development
  • Contribute to data science initiatives by helping to optimize workflows, conduct basic coding for use in engineering workflows, and support the Asset Teams on tangible data science projects
  • Prepare proposals and business cases for pad-based projects to enhance the development of our unconventional assets. Develop project scope and objectives, provide reserve estimates, manage deliverables, timelines, resources, and related budgets.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to execute projects, as well as prepare and present approval and lookback presentations to management
  • Monitor on-going competitor activity within the unconventional sector and utilize competitor information to optimize internal well design and improve capital efficiency
  • Develop relationships with professional associations and unconventional industry peers to keep current on best practices and trends impacting development
WHAT YOU BRING:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in a subsurface engineering role, ideally with proficiency in both Conventional and Unconventional Resource Development.
  • Experience in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a significant asset
  • Working knowledge and experience in Production Decline Analysis, Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA), Rate Transient Analysis (RTA) and numerical reservoir modeling (e.g., using CMG, Intersect or Eclipse)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within cross functional teams and effectively engage others in support of multiple projects and initiatives
  • Programming experience in VBA, Python, R or MATLAB is an asset
  • Familiarity with economic analysis and full field development scenario creation
  • Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Openness to future international assignments is preferred
Job postings are typically only open for applications for two weeks so please submit your resume today.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN OUR TEAM:
  • Flexible arrangement options including working from home and a compressed work week with Friday afternoons off (office-based roles)
  • Dress for your day - a casual yet professional environment
  • Ability to contribute to a dynamic organization with large growth ambitions
  • Competitive compensation and bonus programs
  • Top tier benefit package, including a generous Health Spending Account and Savings Plan
  • Making a positive difference in our communities through volunteerism, community support and providing opportunities to those in the areas where we operate
  • Annual employee-directed charity donation program
  • Support for training and professional development
PETRONAS Canada would like to thank all applicants for their interest in joining our team; however only the candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
