Your role

Content Management and Preservation (CMP) curates, describes, researches and preserves CBC content for today and tomorrow. We connect our clients to the material they need to tell great stories and we share our research expertise and knowledge of CBC’s rich media collections. Through our efforts, the history and culture of Canada as reflected in CBC programming is documented, preserved and accessible. Our services are available to all our regional and national content creators.


Working within the Content Lifecycle Operations team, the Senior Media Librarian, Daily News, is responsible for the management of file based production server and archive environment content. Understanding the entire span of the content lifecycle workflow (gathering, ingest, retrieval, capacity management, packaging, publishing to audiences and archiving), the Senior Media Librarian plays a pivotal role in supporting and further improving processes and best practices for daily news content creators across the country.


You will be utilizing your skills as an information professional by working closely with production and technical support partners to ensure the efficient and effective management and use of media, systems and tools as content flows through its lifecycle.


Shift work may also be required.


Key Tasks:

  • In collaboration with stakeholders, designs, implements and oversees the execution of content management strategies, ensuring the business requirements of both the production and Content Management and Preservation are met and that best practices are followed.
  • Oversees file-based production media assets, including selecting broadcast materials to preserve with the assistance of program and corporate selection criteria, and assigns metadata as required.
  • Analyzes requirements and suggests recommendations based on industry standards and best practices that contribute to optimal performance and user experience.
  • Liaises with stakeholders to discuss system and workflow improvements.
  • Maintains active relationships with partner teams and content creators related to file-based assets.
  • Promotes an understanding of file-based content management via written documentation, one-on-one, or group training.
  • Performs any or all of the tasks of a Media Librarian.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • University Degree in Library Science or the equivalent, with the appropriate subject specialty for the assignment.
  • Four years of comparable and relevant experience.
  • Excellent collaboration and organizational skills as well as a solid understanding of Content Management practices.
  • Proven ability to transform workflows and processes to meet evolving business and production needs.
  • Strong technical understanding of CBC file-based production workflows, systems, tools, and media including, Avid PAM and MAM, Polopoly, Aspera, Isilon, iNews, Medoc-Eureka, Cumulus.
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment that may require quick decision making and the ability to work well under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong inter-departmental knowledge and the ability to prioritize tasks are considered assets for this role.
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada programming, programming policies and journalistic standards and practices.
  • Thorough understanding of preservation and handling of file-based media.
