Purpose

Primary Responsibilities Include

The FP&A Senior Manager is responsible for leading, executing and managing various components related to financial modeling and analyses within the Financial Planning and Analysis team.
  • Lead the day-to-day maintenance, management and development of the Algonquin’s consolidated financial models (short-and long-term) for decision making purposes.
  • Deliver value added analysis, including the development of scenario analysis to address requests from Senior Management.
  • Ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial information to Senior Management, to support critical business decisions.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate forecasts in a timely manner to present to external and internal parties.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of findings and analysis to Senior Management.
  • Industry and peer research and analysis.

  • Financial Forecasting and Planning
  • Lead the development, management, day-to-day maintenance and continuous improvement of Algonquin’s Long-Term Model (five-year financial projection plan for Algonquin and its business groups).
  • Actively participate in the current short-and long-term forecasting and planning process and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Closely monitor financial performance and update the short- and long-term models as needed.
  • Build and develop corporate financial models and analyses in order to provide accurate financial picture of the entity and provide valuation support as needed (SOTP, DCF, etc.).
  • Work closely with Treasury, Tax, Accounting and Business Development to ensure planning assumptions are aligned with the key stakeholders, ensure collaboration and mutual accountability is in place.
  • Assist in the preparation of long-term financial projection presentations to the Board of Directors, Senior Management and various stakeholders as required.
  • Provide support and scenario analysis for CFO, Treasury, Investor Relations, Business Development, and various stakeholders as required.
  • Identification and investigation of financial performance variances as needed.

Other Accountabilities
  • Assist in maintaining and developing company-wide KPIs.
  • Develop strong understanding of the company’s structure and be the expert in various areas of business including but not limited to HLBV income, project financing, utility and renewable energy modeling.
  • Assist with Investor Day presentations.
  • Provide input and guidance on strategic financial issues.

Education and Experience
  • 7 years + progressive experience in similar roles.
  • Prior experience (ideally 3+ years) in investment banking, private equity, corporate development or equity research would be highly beneficial.
  • Preference for a candidate who also possesses experience in power generation or utilities industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater (e.g. Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc.).
  • CPA and/or CFA designation (both would be preferred; preference for CPA-CA).
  • Advanced financial modelling skills including developing driver based three-statement models, including FFO, debt and equity requirements, NPV and ROE/ROI analysis.
  • Advanced understanding of financial concepts, statements (ratio analysis, performance return measures) and valuation methodologies (Discounted Cash Flow and dividend discount model).
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Exceptional communicator (written and verbal), able to present a story and strategic options in a clear, concise manner.
  • A research driven mindset that is anchored in curiosity, learning and balanced with excellent analytical, problem solving and project management/organization skills.
  • Strong work ethic, with an effective combination of business acumen, sound decision-making, and a bias for action; ability to act in a decisive, urgent, and committed way to achieve results; remain focused on deliverables and leverage resources to reach goals.
  • Comfortable working in a growth environment, working with a new team and providing recommendations on improving existing processes.
  • Effective at dealing with ambiguity.
  • Excellent team/relationship building and a team player willing to contribute to the success of all responsibilities of the FP&A team.
