Senior Financial Analyst

Corporate Finance

Contract Full-Time; 10 Months


Reporting into the Supervisor of Analytical Support you will be responsible for ensuring that financial statements and financial analysis are performed accurately and timely. In this role you will help ensure that financial statements comply with all Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards, that year-end is efficiently completed and support any financial related issues as they arise.

In this role you will:
  • Assist the Supervisor with the preparation of the Region’s consolidated financial statements and notes and the preparation of the Peel Housing Corporation financial statements and notes.
  • Prepare the financial statements and notes for the Sinking Fund and Debt Retirement Fund and Trust Fund.
  • Liase with the external auditors for year-end audit, providing working papers and respond to auditor inquiries.
  • Coordinate the compilation of the financials section of the annual Community for Life Report, including supporting the drafting of the Treasurer’s Message.
  • Coordinate the submission of the GFOA Award for Financial Reporting.
  • Liase with the Regional Chair’s Office and Accounts Payable Supervisor to complete the Councilor Term Allowance reporting and update Policy as required.
  • Provide professional expert advice and recommendations in relation to accounting and audit issues and provide training on PSAB accounting standards when necessary.
  • Research and assist with the implementation of any PSAB accounting standard changes, including the development of policies, training and note disclosures.
  • Prepare quarterly Accounting Metrics Report.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and capital holdback analysis.
  • Prepare financial analysis based on ad-hoc requests.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in Commerce or Business Administration, alongside a CPA accounting designation
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive business experience, preferably in the public sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of PSAB accounting standards
  • Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and PeopleSoft Financials
  • Experience working with nVision would be an asset
  • Experience with the preparation of working papers and financial statements would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity
  • Highly developed verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with internal and external partners
  • Highly collaborative with a demonstrated customer service focus
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, objectivity, tact and diplomacy in all situations

Location:
Due to Covid-19, some of our offices are working at limited capacity to protect the health and safety of our employees, clients and community. As such, this position will be required to work remotely for an undetermined period. Once working onsite, you will report to 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton.
