Purpose


The Senior Analyst, Design & Strategic Solutionsis accountable for the following:
  • Provides day to day support on Data analysis, Creative Solutioning, Design for applications, Data mining, developing Internal Customer Relationships, Documenting Operational Improvements through analysis, and Clarifying Key System Operational Concerns to Users (~20% of the role)
  • Assist the day-to-day product requirements gathering and clarifying user stories directly with Business Owners participating in release planning and reviews, backlog grooming, and prioritization of requirements towards release implementation dates. (~20% of the role)
  • Supports Implementation Deployments & Post Implementation Validations for any technology enhancements, upgrades, and related tools to drive efficiency related to the E2E of ECM for Global operations & Compliance (20% of the role)
  • Supports POC and initiative model creation to resolve complex scenarios using modelling software as well as SQL, Excel, VBA or any other tool available in the market in order to support the business requirements and proof of concept process. (~20% of the role)
  • Perform onboarding, offboarding and user access maintenance for ECM Case Manager through Oracle Logical Access database (OLAD), ensuring that audit compliance is maintained, and business objectives are met. (~20% of the role)

This incumbent contributes to the overall success of the Design Strategy & Operational Support team, providing global support, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are compliant with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.


Accountabilities


Design

  • Prepares and ensures validation methods to control the process of designing and development solutions as well as deliverables meeting deadlines in a timely fashion both from a Business and IT leadership where necessary
  • Uses agile and waterfall practices understanding the limitation and interdependencies of Oracle ecosystem variables and accountabilities defined by the role scope, developing plan deliverables, and gaining agreement to solutions from the senior manager and manager, prior presenting them to the Director
  • Plays a key role on creating technical design documents and guides that serve as blueprints to create accountability and facilitate the conversation with IT and Business teams
  • Proposes effective solutioning to complex problems sourcing information and techniques that foster a friendly interaction and brainstorming of the team. As well as remaining within the departmental continuous improvement motto
  • Participates in and organizes regular dissemination of information sessions on upcoming releases as well as facilitating signoff of schedules and plan
  • Designs, Documents, Develops and Delivers solutions within the “Use better and fewer People” methodology principle
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships as well as “Modularity and Scalability” when designing a requirement objectively understanding the enterprise approach to AML and Compliance Systems
  • Champions engagement with stakeholders from a technology standpoint helping the Senior Manager and Director of AML Operations Solutions team

Strategic Solutions:

  • Actively participates in the various project phases from requirements through to implementation to sustainment by:
o Analyzing data to identify trends, interdependencies among variables and be able to define project scope, developing action plans and gaining agreement to solutions from all stakeholders
o Supporting and developing pilot/proof of concept as applicable as well as ensuring UAT/BAT is completed and satisfactory as applicable
o Applying incremental delivery principles, driving the delivery of business value, communicating progress, eliciting feedback, and enabling Business Owner reviews for validation in the process
o Actively Seeking /Acquiring ways to drive effectives to business solutions by researching the Division’s business strategies, changes to regulatory environment, evolving risk management practices and methodologies, updated operational processes, and rapidly changing technology to be able support the Global mandate of the department
  • Business Plan Execution - Planning, monitoring, and managing internal projects of moderate level of complexity from initiation through completion by:
o Supporting the Design & Strategic Solutions Senior Manager/Director in the design and implementation, for the following perspectives: business, IT and/or data management
o Developing and updating project plans (roles, tasks, expectations, project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, as required), implementation schedule(s) and facilitating signoff of schedules and plan
o Supporting, coordinating, and conducting meetings, facilitating working sessions or presentations with Senior Management on the project’s progress
o Ensuring all appropriate departments are represented on the project team and results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule, and cost
  • Relationship Management - Develops and maintains strategic relationships by:
o Establishing, building, and maintaining relationships with internal GSOS key stakeholders and departments within Canadian, International and Global Banking and Markets
o Working with a diverse working group, with varying expertise and job levels; and
o Building good working relations with external vendors and internal/external technology partners, as applicable
o Supporting creation of GSOS-wide communications for new initiatives and planned releases that impact one or several business lines and served regions.

Technical Skills:

  • Must support Design & Strategic Solutions Senior Manager and Director on day-to-day data inquiries/requests from the internal Customers
  • Develops Database reporting as part of design & solutioning process or defect troubleshooting
  • Document processes and flow maps for E2E processes; and using refactoring and scalability
  • Support GSOS senior management on ad-hoc requests/reports/communication in relation to internal customers

Operating Performance Commitments (OPCs):

  • Work with Design & Strategic Solutions Manager and Senior Manager on the development of OPCs and corresponding KPIs
  • Maintains/updates OPCs as processes change and/or through measurement of KPIs, and

Key Operational Concerns (KOCs):

  • Support GSOS management in tracking KOCs using tracking tool/s
  • When applicable, work with GSOS management to develop action plans to resolve/mitigate the risk of KOCs, and
  • Maintain documentation (reports, procedures, etc.) in relation to KOCs

OLAD User Access Management:

  • Perform onboarding, offboarding, user access maintenance and role design for ECM Case Manager through OLAD database.
  • Monitor EACT tech team execution of submitted requests under SLA and with the minimum reprocessing or client impact
  • Validate user access changes record keeping in OLAD database and accurate up-to-date documented user roles
  • Support Manager, Design & Strategic Solutions with Quarterly Certification process, sign-off documentation and bulk-user access execution after certification is completed

Day-to-day support on selected operational activities:

  • Support Design & Strategic Solutions Senior Manager and/or Director on routine/miscellaneous activities for the GSOS such as (but not limited to) GSOS organization charts, centre suite expense management/ governance, GSOS staff database updates, System/Application control activities, Application license inventory, etc.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Education / Experience


University Degree or equivalent and a minimum of minimum of 4 years of experience in the financial services industry preferable in a global/matrix organization in compliance/risk management, project management, Audit and/or critical unit.
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships
  • Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency without compromising compliance requirements
  • An analytical/systematic thinker with an understanding of the elements of project management gained through demonstrated experience and can translate business requirements to technical specifications for technology to implement
  • Demonstrates integrity when working with colleagues and leads others by setting example of required behaviors
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Software development as well as concepts of Abstraction, Refinement, Modularity, Refactoring, Patterns and Data Protection
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to manage difficult conversations
  • High Customer focus and high-risk management focus
  • Excellent understanding of the Canadian banking industry
  • Must possess an advanced knowledge of Visio, Excel, database programming (SQL), Power Point, and Business Intelligence reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or other visualization tools)
  • Demonstrated ability in a similar role managing technology partners/products from end to end, all the way through to delivery, an asset
  • Previous experience in a MIS or data Mining environment where following protocol and linear thinking needed to be used at all times
