General Accountability:

Working within the accounting team, this person is responsible for performing a range of tasks supporting the overall accounting and internal control systems of the business.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly reporting packages including balance sheet, income statement and related bank and other reconciliations;
  • Analyze financial data and create reports including CNI, inter-company receiving & processing revenue, invoice completeness and preliminary revenue;
  • Administer, update and reconcile key Finance applications/databases including FRS Drill, Finance Live, AR Metrics, Seedpak Merge, Budget Viewer and Targit;
  • Prepare budget templates, consolidated budgets and update/reconcile various systems with budget data;
  • Prepare working papers for external auditors;
  • Train and review work of junior Finance staff
  • Account for fixed asset additions, disposals, transfers & depreciation.
  • Assist in A/R management including performing credit research on clients, creating A/R performance reports, importing invoices and providing support/backup in A/R;
  • Assist in sales tax management including preparation of sales tax returns, arranging remittances, reviewing sales tax self-assessment and determining sales tax recovery resulting from bad debts;
  • Assist in tax management including preparation of T106 Interco Continuity schedule, combined financial statements for T2/T106, US tax working papers and other schedules as required;
  • Issue and administer credit cards;
  • Review a high volume of vendor invoices for prepaid/accrual implications and maintain the Prepaid/Accrual schedule;
  • Process inter-company transactions;
  • Post payroll entries to Finance system, reconcile 401K interco transactions, flexible spending account and H.S.A;
  • Track, post, reconcile and review WCB initial premium and audit paperwork;
  • Assist with projects throughout the year as requested by Director of Finance or Controller;
  • Respond promptly to queries from internal and external stakeholders;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of accounting software;
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Access, SQL Server and Microsoft Excel;
  • Strong work ethic and orientation to detail;
  • Proper management of deadlines;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven leadership abilities;
  • Strong customer service focus;
  • Ability to work well independently and/or as part of a team;
  • Demonstrate considerable initiative to accomplish tasks in a fast paced environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a professional accounting designation;
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting role.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks such as data entry.
