Halifax Stanfield is Atlantic Canada’s principal full-service airport providing passengers and cargo clients with direct access to markets across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean Basin, Europe, and Asia. Halifax Stanfield offers Canada Customs services on a 24-hour, seven day a week basis, and it’s the only airport in Atlantic Canada with U.S. preclearance and International to Domestic processing facilities. The Airport is a major economic generator, contributing $3.8 billion annually to the provincial economy pre-pandemic. In 2020, Halifax Stanfield served 995,000 passengers and processed nearly 33,000 metric tonnes of cargo. A recognized innovator in the global airport industry, Halifax Stanfield was the first airport in North America to offer a self-service baggage drop system for all passengers and is consistently ranked among the best airports in the world.

ROLE PROFILE:

Reporting to the Airfield Maintenance Supervisor (Winter), the Airfield Maintenance Technician (AMT) (Winter Seasonal) is responsible for the operational and structural maintenance of airside facilities. The AMT (Winter Seasonal) is part of the Halifax International Airport (HIAA) airside maintenance staff and is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient upkeep and maintenance of all hard surfaces, grounds and fencing encompassed on airside, while adhering to all applicable policies and procedures. The AMT (Winter Seasonal) will assist with the general maintenance of all HIAA facilities as required. The Winter Seasonal may be requested to perform other duties including acting leadership roles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) year’s experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment
  • A valid class 3 driver’s license with airbrake endorsement
  • Must be able to obtain and retain an HIAA Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) and an Airport Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code
  • Experience with snow and ice control and hard surface repairs
  • Demonstrated safety awareness
  • Experience in construction and general labour
  • Familiarity with best airport practices for snow remediation on runways, taxiways and aprons an asset
  • Familiarity with airports and/or airside operations an asset
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel and Word & AIMS (Airfield Inspection Management System))
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team through use of critical thinking skills and behavior to help ensure the team’s success
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and respectful working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and implement instructions in a timely manner
  • Must be willing to work shift work and work overtime as required
  • Must be willing to complete any required HIAA training
  • Must be willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Experience in fast paced customer service-oriented work environment
  • Should be physically capable of lifting 20kg
