About us

We are a team of passionate scientists, environmentalists and engineers who have come together from various backgrounds to influence one of the largest industries in the world to make a positive change. We create plant powered alternatives to traditional plastic inputs.

Single use plastics made with our solutions are compostable, and compatible with existing plastic technology, making plant powered plastics the natural choice.

We’re not reinventing the wheel - we’re just making it more sustainable.

About the role

Reporting to the R&D Manager, we’re seeking a passionate Research Scientist. The main goal of this role is to conduct research projects to develop new polymeric material formulations that are compostable and targeted for rigid (non-film) applications.

As an ideal candidate, you are a researcher with proven skills in conducting scientific research, collecting data and performing analysis. Your background demonstrates knowledge in polymers, polymer composites and different additives used in the industry. You are experienced in operating a variety of polymer processing machines and you’re avid in learning the operation of new equipment. Your organizational, communication, and time management skills are second to none and you enjoy developing solutions that push innovative boundaries.

In this role you will be responsible for the following key areas.

  • Complying with all safety requirements of the work environment including wearing PPE and following safe machine operation and materials handling protocols.
  • Conducting and summarizing scientific literature surveys.
  • Identifying new and/or existing raw materials (e.g. polymers, fillers, coupling agents, compatibilizers, lubricants, processing aids, pigments, etc.) for producing polymeric and polymer composite materials with specific end characteristics.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and conducting application oriented R&D research projects to meet R&D goals and the mission of the company.
  • Starting up, operating and shutting down polymer processing equipment.
  • Recording and analyzing data statistically to identify improvement opportunities based on a given criteria.
  • Preparing project reports and weekly progress updates.
  • Preparing standard operating procedures.
  • Providing support in handling raw materials and stocked inventory.
  • Providing support in sourcing materials, supplies and consumables as needed.

About you

First things first, let’s make sure you check off some of the basics…

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in relevant industrial projects (plastic/bioplastic/biopolymers manufacturing).
  • Proven background in scientific research and development in the field of polymers and polymer composites.
  • Working knowledge of statistical data analysis and the applicable software tools available.
  • Experienced with a variety of polymer processing machines such as extruders, batch mixers, injection and compression molding machines, etc.
  • Ability to quickly grasp function and operations of new equipment.
  • Detailed planning and time-management skills.
  • Great organizational, documentation and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficient in using the Google Workplace suite of products.
  • Comfortable with a mix of both desk and physical work (regular bending, twisting and lifting up to 50 lbs) on a daily basis.
  • Patent publishing and drafting experience is a plus
  • Experience with bio-based and/or compostable plastics, including the legal & regulatory environment, is a plus
  • Fluent in English.

Now let’s talk about you and the type of impact you will make…

  • You’re hardworking, motivated, and honest.
  • You have strong teamwork skills.
  • You have a strong attitude of scientific research for commercialization.
  • You’re entrepreneurial. This means you are always thinking about ways to innovate, improve and see the big picture of what we are striving to accomplish.
