The Education Analytics Office enables the K-12 sector in B.C. to be a world leader in the use of education data to support program and strategic planning, system performance and quality delivery of personalised education. The Branch is comprised of four units.
  • The Data Infrastructure and Operations Unit is responsible for data management and infrastructure operations for the Ministry’s business area and client interface with data, including data dissemination and website reporting; data collection enhancements; contributing to enhancements to the Education Data Warehouse; ensuring business area requirements are met for data loads, and working closely with the Ministry’s Information Technology department to provide leadership on data quality assurance, data governance, and metadata management.
  • The Education System Outcomes Unit is responsible for the ministry’s education system outcomes analysis, and school district and field client support as it relates to system performance data. System analytics includes public school outcomes, independent school outcomes, French immersion program, Distance Learning, student transitions to post-sec, and school district client support.
  • The Student Population Research unit is responsible for significant research initiatives to support understanding student success at the population level, and is responsible for cross Ministry program area support on areas including students with special needs, indigenous students, children and youth in care, and early learning. The unit is also responsible for the Student Learning Survey administration and analysis.
  • The Education Economics Unit provides expertise in economic, statistical, and social evaluation of educational data, and is responsible to lead the development of predictive analysis and forecasting that shapes the delivery of educational services across the province.
The Research Officer coordinates data exchanges within and between the Ministry of Education and external organizations and researchers to ensure that the information is used to improve understanding of the educational system and to improve service delivery. The analyst will spend the majority of their time extracting data from large Ministry databases, QA’ing data loads, creating analytics products, and working on ongoing Education Data Warehouse (EDW) development. The position works with ministry program areas, management, professional and administrative staff, and external contractors to support the improvement of performance across the entire K-12 system. The Research Officer plays an essential role in the on-going maintenance and use of the Education Data Warehouse (EDW).

Job Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field, AND two years of experience in programming; OR
  • Diploma in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field, AND three years of experience in programming; OR
  • Diploma in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field, AND four years of experience in programming; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience in programming may be considered.
  • Experience with SQL programming.
Preference May Be Given To Applicants With The Following
  • Two or more years of experience with SQL programming.
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Experience using data management principles.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerBI for visualization
  • Experience in advising clients in how to interpret and use data for decision-making.
